Having said that the rb is late 80's technology and i believe it did very well to last this long....time to step aside i think, although the R35 is yet to be proven 100%. Time will tell...i have complete faith.

I love my RB engines.....

But its 2008 and Nissan had to come out with something new, or be swamped

fine for the 1% that can afford the 35 but the other 99% can have an RB GTR right now with the necessary upgrades to give them similar power which will see them thru for the next 10 years or so until the 35 becomes affordable.

What someone needs to do is come up with an RB package that gives similar kind of midrange to the VR38, as thats the key for it being so quick in such a heavy car...midrange and lots of it! :)

All though no where near the 400rwkw mark the gt30 .82 on the rb30 makes 200rwkw at 3500rpm and 256rwkw at 4000rpm with 19psi.

Would be interesting to see what sort of power a well sorted rb30det with a pair of 2530's could make.

Its the transient response that would blow you away. While its possible to hold a car on the dyno and let it build boost to make a power and torque figure at a given rpm, get it out on the road at 1500rpm and nail the throttle in fourth gear. That tells the complete story :)

Exactly.. There's really no replacement for displacement. :)

what is the max rev limit for this engine. 7500 rpm?

also do you have the software to unlock the 03 350z ecu to raise the rev limit on that?

Look its a forum, anyone can have an opinion - but heres the facts....

R35 GTR Stock

0-100km/h - 3.5 sec

0-400M - 11.5/11.6sec @ 120-122mph

Now to get this pace from an R32/33/34 GTR you will need -

TD05 kit/GT2540 turbochargers or similar running 1.5 bar boost

700cc+ fuel injectors

Upgraded fuel pump

Programmable management FC or similar with a correctly carried out tune

Front pipes

Full exhaust system with cat removal

Upgraded twin/triple clutch

Possible intercooler upgrade

and be prepared to build an engine for it in the very near future...

This isnt a guess. We have done our fair share of GTR modification over the years.

Nissan have done a very good job of building a genuine supercar that thankfully DOESNT need a bucket of cash thrown at it to make it go like it should.

That is the true value of R35 :laugh:

So basically you get 911 turbo performance for the boxter pricetag?

And there's still plenty of scope for upgrades without having to rip it to pieces and kill the package.

Like you say, sounds like the real deal to me.

I believe on a scale of 'bang for buck', modding the RB engines is far cheaper with sufficient gains.

Maybe in a couple of decades when the R35 and any mods are more affordable ............

yeah I agree to some extent Reuben - but you simply can't compare the R35 with anything that has ever existed previously - it is in a whole new league. Fact is you don't need to mod it - with a tune they are making 350rwkw - much more that you can use on the street anyhow.

Then again... VW have done a very reasonable job of making an engine that's short on displacement punch well above it's weight. VW call it TSI, but it makes more sense when I say... a supercharger and a turbocharger combined to work as one.

The VW Golf GT/TSI runs a 1.4L four cylinder TSI engine that makes 125kw and 240nm of torque, the bulk of the later at just 1500rpm till 5000rpm. Driven 'normally' it can also return figures of under 6.0L/100. It's even more fun when it comes with a DSG gearbox.

Not exactly R35 GTR territory, but good for the daily commute, very impressive economy (handy when paying 1.50+per L) and much quicker than a few fleet Commodore owners were expecting :)

    • With the system, once you drive it for a bit, and before you turn the car off, does the car fix its date and time? When you say the date is wrong, what date does the vehicle think it is, and does it always show the same date? My thoughts from a process driven view is; The system may be defaulting to a standard start date/time. The main reason you'd typically see this occuring, is the system is losing its constant/backup power supply.   If its always defaulting to the same date/time at start up, and especially if it fixes itself while driving, I'd say either the non volatile memory has an issue, or the power supply to the volatile memory that stores this information.   The other thing I'd check is if there is anywhere in the system you can adjust the date and time from. If the date/time is still moving forward since it wished you happy new year, then it is 100% possible the system has just had a bit of data corruption occur, and you likely need to find a way to reset the date/time in the vehicle.
    • Scissor Jacks are an accident waiting to happen, the only time they should be used are in an roadside flat, even then a tyre and rim should be placed underneath 
    • You know how your car rolled through a fence in your last jacking escapade? Scissor jacks increase the likely hood of that sort of thing happening immensely!

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
