lol Rhys i hope you are joking about the magistrate comment, they are the ones letting off these repeat offenders with warnings, following the news lately theres only been 1 story about a magistrate who handed out a fair decision.

the magistrate can only do what the laws allow them, the legal process is a bitch and you cant make decisions based on gut feelings, you have to follow the letter of the law and if the accuses has a good lawyer then there is only so much you can do in certain sittuations.....

where as a cop follows there gut feelings, they see a skyline and there gut feeling is that they can defect it easily and you have no legal representation to defend yourself as the laws have been molested to the point where a cop can defect a brand new car

But if you take away those laws, and make things more lenient, the over 30's get angry that the hoon laws aren't enforced enough, and they are the ones who vote! every cause has an effect

and thus is the problem with australia.............we are slowly becoming a nanny country thanks to our aged population and tightning government controll :bunny:

in a perfect world, youd be right, rhys.

but last i checked, its far from a perfect world. a magistrate at the end of the day is just like you and me, they get scared, they get cocky, they get bored, they get intimidated.

they get greedy.

*shrug*

lol i try be a bit more positive about it but i fear your right :bunny:

Oh and Craig, you have seen me, if i caught someone trying to steal my car, id lose the fight, so why bother. I try my very hardest to keep my car out of situations where it could be stolen, like at home, my car is alarmed and immobilised in front of my mums astra, which is in front of a locked roller door, with my dads toyota hilux behind it, and a big f**k off heavy double locked sliding gate out the front.

Get a big dog. A HUGE dog. And don't feed it much. PERFECT security, until a mailman comes to the door....

"BUCK! Put that mailman down now!!"

OMNOMNOMNOM

"DROP! DROP THE MAILMAN!"

*whimper*

you can pick a cop hater a mile away, i love how no one ever says anything about good cops, but theres a 20 page discussion if a thread comes up about a cop being an ass. A cop is just the first step, if they get caught, they go before a magistrate, but you don't hear anyone bagging out magistrates for their poor sentences. I agree that the police are unfair at times, ill be the first to admit that. And effort is rarely shown at the scene of an attempted car theft, such as not taking prints or following up. The sad thing is, there are SOOOO many car jackings/ attempted thefts in Adelaide, if the police spent all their time tracking them all down, people would whinge about police not out on the beat in public area, or not arresting real criminals.

my 9 yen.

most sense made in this thread so far

i think the magistrate are very fair and reasnoble :), its the laws behind them that need to be changed

im gonna stick by street justice cause i know the police wont do anything..........even if they manage to catch the people its a slap on the wrist. so id rather slap em around a lil and send them on there way :)

*cough*

yes that is true but there are minimums and maximums that they can give, and a lot of the time they dont even give minimums

i think the level of "bias" at magistrate level is ALOT less than your average coppa

where are you living man, its clearly not in our society

um the problem with Australia and not having renewable population is WE KEEP KILLING OUR CHILDREN

very true and magistrate can be swayed by all mannor of things if they had a fight with the wife the night before, there child from interstate is coming back for christmas, one of the other magi's touched them up in the locker room you get my drift large papers bags full of other paper products

do a search on what "truth in sentencing" is all about.

Ask any cop about the frustrations of finding a crook, risking his life in some cases to capture him, then get him to court where a Supreme or High Court Justice gives him a little slap with a fraction of a precedent sentence which he'll serve less than half the time..........all in the name of rehabilitation.

I recently spent a week in Melbourne did a fair bit of driving.

Here in Adelaide there are a hell of a lot more police patrolling the streets compared to Melbourne.

One thing that was interesting.. Almost no imports over there. Here in Adelaide you see an import be it Nissan or Toyota in almost every pack of cars at the lights.

I guess they are all at local drag STRIPSSSS with a big plural S!!! or the local track. :)

what part of melbourne where u in?? my old man is over there on a weekly basis and says he see's nuthing but very hot modified skylines/wrx's/evo's etc.....and this is a 50yr old bloke spotting these cars lol

Heart of the city and a few mins out at Coburg.

They were about but nothing like here in Adelaide.

i agree, when i was over there i hardly saw a stock import let alone a modded one :)

but that was in the actual city no where outside of it

    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
