I Got Rammed Up The Arse By A 4wd...

Recommended Posts

Well I have only had my GT25 for oh three weeks now and while stopped at a red light a hilux failed to slow in time, swerved sightly and cleaned up my back right hand corner.

The prognosis: rear right quarter is f**ked, taillight f**ked, rear bumper is ugly, that little panel that runs between the boot and guard is f**cked, the rear right hand wheel rubs up against the guard. Amazingly no glass is broken, chassis and suspension is fine, still drives and my mags are still clean.

The hilux's bull bar is fine by the way...

Insurance paid out and now my uncle (who is a bodyworker by trade), my father (an engineer) and I (an unskilled idiot) are spending the next week putting it all back together.

Considering the insurance paid out it means I get brand new Nissan bits as well woo hoo!

Pics here once I stuck it on a trailer and found my crappy camera:

I was at motors getting prices on new bits, they wouldn't believe that I wasn't drifting and pranged it that is until they saw it was an auto. If you look at the left hand side it looks as immaculate as the day I bought it but the right is baaaaad.

After cutting the guard off and straightening the inner guard up:

Was all bent out of shape but my uncle fixed it up in a day. I owe him some beer...

New quarter all sprayed and ready to go:

So now I'm stuck driving around in a Pulsar while I try and get it fixed before the end of next week.

Plus I need to get a structural report done before its allowed back on the road. :bunny:

Edited cause my photos were wrong...

probably did it on purpose. did he get out and blame you?

on a serious note; its good that you have your dad and uncle to help you out with it, hope it comes out cleanly :)

Actually he did... Apparantly I braked too quickly lol.

Yeah knowing people is handy otherwise I would have been royally screwed.

shame you couldnt have scored GTR rear quarters....Sad sight to see the line all mangled like that

I can't really see the point in getting GTR bits for a non-turbo. I was pretty upset too... Oh well at least I'm not paying for it to be fixed its more of a pain than anything.

At least its going to be a perfect job what with the people on it that are. I'm pretty certain I'll sell it once its on the road again and looking good. Saved up a bit of cash so I can get my hands on a R33 turbo or build that RB20DET powered onevia I've always wanted...

Sorry to hear mate!

Other than the obvious it looks like a very clean R33.

If your looking to go down the turbo path, I have a blown R33 S2 turbo, that would be suitable for highflowing, $150. Let me know if your interested.

Welcome to the forum!

UPDATE!!!

Well after a week of having no time to get it back together, we have finally got stuck in. It turned out that the damage to the inner guard was reasonably extensive, however my uncle was called and it was repaired within a day. Then a day was spent getting things to line up and then the test fit.

A few things are a tad out (stretched slightly from the accident and then when the spot welds were cut it kind of sprang out of shape) like where the taillight butts up against the guard. However we took to it and my father was happy to say it is now within factory spec.

Everything will be welded today, and the bits that need to be sprayed will be sprayed in a friends spray bay by a professional. All things going well it should be back on the road if not this wednesday next wednesday as that is the only day that transport will do the inspections they need to do before it can be officially re-registered.

No luck needed! Just got a call and its been welded back up and its on its way to the spray booth!

The glass will be back in and it should be done this Wednesday.

Should be more pics either today or tomorrow.

UPDATE DATE DATE date date date...

Well its all welded up and was finished off by my uncle. He commented on how tough it must have been to survive the hit it had without any bad structural damage.

I have been forced back to Hobart, so in the mean time all the welds have been cleaned and apparently its not possible to tell that a new panel is in place. The spray painter was busy the day we wanted it painted so it will be next week or the weekend most likely before its actually painted and blended to match.

Well, everything is primered now and waiting for the spray painter. It looks like its all going to take a week longer than I thought.

Mildly annoyed about this because the car I'm driving at the moment either needs double the engine capacity it has or a turbo and it seems to be leaking power steering fluid onto the exhaust so that when I stop my vision is filled by blue smoke. Needless to say its not great for taking the girlfriend anywhere.

Anyhow, here's some update:

Oh and before anyone asks yes I need a new bumper, it has just been patched up a bit for the moment. I have a new one coming from a bloke in Melbourne, cheap as chips too...

Update again.

Today the car was almost entirely put back together and taken for a test drive just to make sure.

The rear and side glass goes back in tomorrow, it gets structurally checked (again!) Tuesday, Department of Transport checked Wednesday, registered on Thursday and then driven straight back to Hobart.

Overall I imagine its going to be a hectic week for me...

My car is back on the road!

At first we were worried because the new panels look so much nicer than the old ones but after a good quality polish and several waxes the rest of the car finally looked good.

The repaired side, I am still waiting on my fuel filler cap lid thing:

Back right hand corner is now dead straight:

So happy to be back in a real car that Pulsar was beginning to get on my nerves. I owe several people many beers, namely my father, my uncle and any other family members that helped by keeping me driving in the mean time.

To those that helped, cheers and I'll see you all on the road.

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
