Stephen Thorpe
I would say it is something like a Kill switch, the handpiece has a Chip in it, that that car mounted plug can read. If it doesn't read it, there will be no power to the engine, ECM, starter. If yours does nothing I would say the 2 wires behind it have been re-joined to form a circuit. We have them at work on ground support exuipment. Deano45
Looks like a touch key immobilizer i.e. have to touch the key to the socket before you can start the car Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/236954-whats-this/#findComment-4145976 Share on other sites

Ant
Friend has something that looks similar on his car - as I understand it is used as an alarm override when for some reason you can't disarm the alarm the normal way using the remote (eg dead remote/flat battery/misbehaving alarm etc). Chris Rogers
its the dealer fitted alarm enable/disable switch. I remove them at compliance after having SEVERAL F'UP and strand the car. with it enabled it drops a CAN line to the ECU and the car does not go. great idea absolutely crap fitting. they are all put in with scotch locks and most are loose. if you have the ability remove it. you should also have the ultrasonics on the dash and a battery backed siren behind the glove box. as a bonus most of them controlled the mirrors on reverse. (they dip down.) Edited September 21, 2008 by Chris Rogers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/236954-whats-this/#findComment-4146249 Share on other sites
