This still plagues me. The S1 has done IT for the last 6 months and now I am starting to suspect the bearings in the jockey pulleys. I'll try the WD40 trick first.

we have a lot of dust relater start up squeal issues on all the work trucks and my stag didnt do it untill i did a few dohnuts on some bone dry grass and made a big cloud of dust. now it chirps on first start up each time

ive been plauged with this i bought my stag back in dec 2011.

any info on a solution would be greatly appreciated. a mate of mine recomended changing the free wheeling tension pulley down on the right. think it might be the ac pump belt tensioner. not sure. if anyone has a part number for any or all the front pulleys id be keen to change em all, and my belts at the same time.

my stag has done about 80 000km. recon i should do my timing belt to??

I did all my belts around 90k...

its was making the sound after the belt change... after the mechanics tightened and loosened what they could.

we ended up changing the bearings also... the sound finally went away

Hey team,

Yep, my stag is doing the same, has been for about 3months, since about 76,000k. It's definitely at the front of the engine there. I did some testing this morning, narrowed it down to the right side of the engine; power steering, aircon or their belts. I am pretty sure it's power steering. I am waiting till tomorrow morning to try again to make sure.

Let you know how I go.

mine does the same, squeals for a few seconds on cold startup, other then checking belts I havn't really looked into it yet, but I think its the clutch in the fan slipping that squeals, after a few seconds of running you hear the fan kick in properly and the noise stops.

The third adjuster is underneath the little idler wheel at the bottom. Loosen the idler wheel first before you nip it up.

If you remove the plastic guard under the front of the car it is as plain as day.

My power steering made some noise before I changed the oil. It was reasonably obvious because if you turned the steering at low speed, it made the noise louder

    • Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.
    • I have the 2025 build re003s’ on my 06 XT Forester Turbo and I quite rate them for street wet and dry
    • I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent.

    • So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
