Hey guys, i got a quote for a 2 1/4" Cat back exhaust with a canon from Bankstown Mufflers for $350. As i have no clue what price range i should be paying, do you think this is reasonable?

What difference would it make from getting it done at a Muffler shop, then buying say a HKS exhaust for $900 ?

To be blunt, isnt it the same peice of metal ?

What is quote for?

Mild Steel?

Stainless Steel?

Press bent?

Mandrel bent?

2 1/4 is small for a 2.5L, even f it is only a cat back. May aswell just get a new mufler on the stock pipeing.

The main diffrence will be sound quality. A deep smooth growl vs. farting in a tin as most generic mufflers end up sounding like.

Well thats what i was thinking, i want 2.5.. cause right now its running i think a 3 or 3.5 inch catback with a 4 inch canon. And it is sooooooo annoying. I used to envy 34's with stock exhausts :(

Cop attention like no tomorrow.

So im looking around to get the best for my money.

No wonder you're getting done by cops all the time! Bankstown + Skyline + Loud exhaust + non-enclosed pod filter. It sucks, but cops like those sorta cars =/

If it was me, I would get a 2.5" Mandrel Bent with resonators to tone it done. I'm even considering a high-flowing oval barrel twin tip muffler just to keep it looking factory when I get my exhaust done.

You shouldn't have too much problem selling a R34 3" exhaust second hand, that should help fund the new system.

As was mentioned previously, jap brand exhausts do have a lot of R&D put into them, which translates into $$$ plus you will also pay for the brand too to an extent. A custom made exhaust from your local reputable exhaust place will probably be made from materials more suited to Aussie conditions, and they should also really be ensuring it is within dB limits enforced by law so that you don't have any trouble.

Yeah the one i got on the 34 now is a Kakimoto one lols.

How much do you reckon i can fetch for the Kakimoto canon and 3" ?

What would you recommend? Sell the exhaust first? or get the new exhaust done and tell the exhaust shop to gimme the exhaust so i can sell it :(

But it will definately be an upgrade, coz right now i like the sound, but it gets a lil too loud and too much attention.

If you can get someone lined up to buy your old one at the same time, then you're in luck. Definitely don't let the exhaust shop keep the old one!

I imagine the kakimoto one would be a bolt on exhaust, so it will be easy to remove and for the buyer to sell.

Either way a new exhaust has to go on first though.

Have a look at FS threads to see how much they usually go for. Check to see if there's any WTB's for R34 zorst, you might be in luck.

Alright sweet minds made up. 2.5" it is.

Secondly, im gonna' sell the current one so i can get the money and add it to the money i was willing to spend, just to get something a lil better

I think $350-400 is a reasonable budget for a good custom made cat back. Any extra money could really be put towards improving other parts of your cars performance.

I'm not sure how much you'll get for your 2nd hand kakimoto, but being that it's an aftermarket item you should be able to get a decent figure for it.

That's what I would do anyways..maybe put the extra $$ towards some extractors. Though extractors can be quite pricey once you add HPC and fitting, but you'll get more out of that then spending much more on the catback imo.

Yeah no details. But ive heard pretty nasty things aswell

But regardless. Im gonna' be phoning around and finding out prices. And will probably post up some rough prices here when i get the chance for future reference.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
