Hi,

I'm getting the 'mod' jitters again lately and was considering a fmic.

Basically running a SII R33 only mods are turbo back exhaust (split dump, hi flow cat, trust pe2) and a k&n filter.

Was looking at FMIC and boost controller next but was wondering if there are any 'stealth' fmic that will sit under a stock sII front bar which offer good performance??

Any info or pics of what you have done would be great

cheers

Hi there also looking for a fmic that will fit nicely behind s2 front bar. I here there is a place in hoppercrossing melb vic that supply a turnaround one as well that fits nicely. I forget the name of the company but thinking about getting one from there. They are also on this forum look in parts for sale section (traders).

thanks for the replies guys.

ok prob bad wording. don't mind a bit of modding to stock s2 front bar. This makes option easier?

keen on seeing pics of what ppl have done and what running.

Found this via google... kinda like the look of what is on it but have no idea what it is or how much modding to get it to fit! http://s134.photobucket.com/albums/q95/mrl...nt=MobyDyno.flv

Lith's intercooler is just a standard "over the radiator" type.

This is mine:

Its a Blitz LM Kit. Fantastic little piece. Cant be happier.

Note i screwed up the cut a tiny bit on the passenger side, thats why you can see the pipe :) Had a slightly bent bumper iron that i didnt know about when fitting. All fixed now, but after i had trimmed!

But, if you dont screw it up ( :P ) then it looks great!

Thanks for the replies.... also thanks for the pic GotRice. Silver R33 is exaclty what i wanted! >_<

I'm not planning on doing the install myself so might talk to the shop and get them to talk me through whats there and exactly how much of my stock front bar needs to be cut.

got rice my car is a splitting image to yours...... how much did you have to cut of your bar? what needed cutting? can you send me more pics of the install or not?????

cheers

These are the only install photos i took. After a bit of frustration i stopped taking snaps

Bumper Iron:

Unfortunately i didnt get any photos of the trimming of the bumper itself, as it was pissing me off :), a fair whack of it is cut away, like, nearly all of it. It takes a long time with alot of test fitting, marking, cutting to get it sitting perfect.

And you also need to severely mod the indicator on this style OEM bumper too. Theres barely anything left of it, and the bit of the bumper it slots into was also cut out to clear the intercooler pipe.

Cutting the plastic holder, pulling the brass connectors out etc... you will figure it out!

Its a Blitz LM Kit. Fantastic little piece. Cant be happier.

I have this one on my car, with a stock S2 bar you won't have to do anything to the foggies or indicators. You need to trim some of the bar on the passengers side under them though. Nothing major. I installed in about 3 or 4 hours over a few beers...

Big tip, bolt it all together, get the pipes sitting properly THEN tighten everything

If you arent going to upgrade your turbo anytime soon, then why not just get the r34 side mount.

Its capable of supporting 210kw. Direct fit with no modifications!!

I had mine for about a good solid year with no problems. Even been on track days and no problems with heat soak etc.

Will cost you 100 bucks max

Thats another option for you :)

gdluck

i wouldnt bother with a side mount

once you turn the boost up and crank up the exhaust i believe the side mount in the side locaiton is a just a big heater panel

i dont believe you get the gains you get from a decent core in the front of the car

ive got a 450x300x75 core and it fits fine, some of the side bar on the s2 bar to be cut back but it fits well

im yet to see in and out temps from a side mount in the side location

i would expect the outtemps after the core arent that crash hot (mind the pun) when 12psi, full exahust and usual GTST mods

for the cost of typical china cores fitted (sub $500 fitted) why would u bother messiing around with side mounts and junk

ok...I never considered a r34 smic. Basically longer term im wanting to running higher boost on the stock turbo (exhaust is already done).

As car is a daily and reliable driver i want to keep it that way, so thought FMIC would be sensible in first step before mucking around.

Finchy33. My front bar is the same as yours. Any chance you have front on pics? I'm liking what your saying about the minor trimming only.

thanks

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
