Was I high or did that camry do a 1/4 mile in 13.sumthin seconds???

yeah, was gonna write in to them and abuse them lol

They showed the Carmy doing a 13sec, Falcon 13sec and HT doing a 17sec . They didnt say what distance they measured. Later on he said the Camry beat the other cars down the quarter, implying that it was the segment they showed in the first half of the show.

Was probably more like a 1/8 mile

That julia chick needs to learn how to be quiet, what a damn attention seeker!

VERY funny that after the young guy had been "driving" the AMG he mentioned that he found the ESP button. Sorry, but that, and the TC are the first things that need to be turned off.

I could have sworn later on he mentioned that it was the standard 1/4 mile test. But if a POS camry from a scrap heap with some orange paint is pullin 13s then i really would like to see that.

Sorry to get all Grandpa on everyone,

Is it just me or is everyone else okay with what the old blonde guy did to drive into the door of the camry during their little paddock bash? All jokes aside my 15y.o little bro was watching the show with me and have to say that's not the kind of behavior I'd like him to see behind the wheel of any car in ANY situation, didn't help the fact later on they high 5'd each other for doing so

That just spelled reckless and d#ckhead in my books, and I'm probably the last person who could claim they are an angel on the road.

Especially with all the effort the government has put in to spend my tax dollars on Draconian driving laws and all the hype of P-plater restrictions.

I surely can't be the only one who feels this way?

Yeh i agree to an extent but its a show, and its made for ratings, im quite sure they don't give a shit about the little people that get the consequences of their acts passed onto. But then again these shows do specify that you shouldnt attempt to try any of the driving acts/stunts they perform.

That being said, im a p plater aswell and wether the shows on or not, what i do behind the wheel is influenced by myself and MYSELF only. As for other people that do get influenced by this stuff they just simply shouldn't be watching it, or at least (like yourself) should have a figurehead that corrects the younger people watching, hence we have the rating PG lol. :bunny: But your definately right, they probs woulda got slandered with parents and rating whores emailing and calling the station regarding the show's content.

Ahh i feel like a grandpa too now! I only just turned 20! GGGaAAah shouldn't we both be doin burnouts and 'hooning' about promoting wrecklesness? haha.

Yeah I know, I'm 21 and even I felt strange typing what I did.

Just thought what they did was in bad taste given the current climate with hoons and the media and all this 'public' outcry for action. Then you have some old guy on the television treating the segment like a destruction derby, only to have his colleagues high 5 and 'good on ya mate' to him, saying they would do the same

They were going "paddock bashing" though isn't that the general idea of it. Get out into a paddock n destroy the cars? Its not like they were doing it on public roads. To be fair to them Clarkson has done a tonne of things much much worse than that. If anyone who watched that show suddenly thinks its acceptable to go and start running into eachother on the road then they shouldn't be allowed near a car. Anybody with half a brain can see that its not a responsible or acceptable way to drive but thats TV.

TV does not affect your actions YOU do.

you also have to remember that in every challenge that the UK topgear guys do they open doors into each others cars, or run into each others cars when they park (or pull up at an intersection). only real difference with the aussie one is that it was at a higher speed.

i personally can't stand charlie. he just shits me to tears. so as long as they have him as the main host i won't be sad if i happen to be doing something else while it is on.

also the fact that they are doing a challenge EVERY week is pissing me off. UKTG does 1 every few weeks so it is something to look foward to. but doing it every week just spoils it. do more car tests.

as for the 1/4 mile thing, you also have to remember that they were timing it with a stopwatch, and standing at the start line, so probably didn't stop the stopwatch at the exactly right point, and also they ran out of road pretty soon afterwards so i'd say that the health and safety guys made them shorten the track up so i could garantee that it wasn't 400m. also the fact that a ea falcon running on 4 or 5 cylinders wouldn't do a 1/4 in 13 seconds either.

i must say that the footage from the track is getting better though. they are making the cars look faster.

i still cant stand it.. australia just doesnt get enough good cars.. and we dont have good enough roads.. and honestly, what is with the test track?? surely someone will let them on a proper race track like oran park or something..

and another thing... did anybody actually see what the mercedes looked like?? all i saw were artsy camera angles and contrast changes... my eyes were hurting trying to focus and catch a glimpse of whether it was a 2 door or 4 door..

was good to see them rubbish the stupid bmw "thing" though.

that was about all i saw, heck, it makes idol almost worth watching.. atleast i know the judges on it and they have their own characters.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
