You might have to work your guards to achieve this look, most panel beaters can do this.

You'll need a chat with couple of panel beater and go from there.

Hope it helps.

Yeah I'm aware of that. I just want some more pics and ideas.

Alright, maybe try looking at nissansilvia.com forums, pretty sure these guys do this kind of thing to their cars quite often.

hey Kevzilla. great idea moulding STI front guard sections onto your rear quarters. did you cut away the metal from the existing guard that would have been underneath?? how did you clean this up to make it look all smooth inside??

also it looks like you have a GTR front bar but you said your front guards were standard and you just pulled them out a bit.... how did you mount the front bar? looks original too with the plastic bottom lip??

Yer with both front and rear i cut away some of the existing metal because having rims wide enough to fill the guards they will rub against the standard body. The front bar is a genuine GTR with plastic lip...pulling the guards out a bit made the bar sit ok. only problem now is there's a gap between the headlights and the bar because for some reason the gtst guards and bonnet seem to be shorter than the GTR ones.

This is what I ended up getting done.

It's about 1 inch wider at the back and front was a bit less. It's plenty though for the GTR offset (+30) rims and fatter rubber. The paint did crack however so they needed to be touched up.

Pics aren't the best.

Anyone have any idea where I can get bolt ons like these?

u can get some like them i think from tokage on the gold coast ... think they look very similar, they really look good n 32s..

i was thinking guys instead of pricey sti guards why not go to a wreckers n just get honda legend guards

Hi Shane,

Thanks for that mate... I am so looking forward to getting them done but pictures would be super.

I will PM you now. Thanks again, buddy.

i've uploaded a couple of pics there. i've also included another pic i found of the guards in progress, and also some pics of freddy from topstage at work.

Freddy's design ideas and creativity are amazing. i told him what i wanted, i showed him some pics of some idea cars, and he/we came out with a rough draft of what you see below. There was another final draft after this one that i signed off on and we started working with, but that's just an example for you.

The guards I don't even remember getting done now, it was so long ago and there was so much work going on with my ride that i don't remember how long he took with them. I know the front guards were extremely quick, and he smoothed out the indicator lights seemlessly and waited for after painting to do the grill, but i'm sure you can work this out with him. As for the rear guards, this was a lot of work! the amount of hours of labour that went into them was crazy, but the end result is amazing. it's fibreglass over the metal shell, so i've strengthened my car up with strut bars front and rear and never once has any of the fibreglassing cracked. I guess some things did take some time, but with another daily car it never mattered so i didn't notice.

The best thing about Topstage and Freddy is he is honest and helpful! I've had 3 front bars proir to this custom one and his quality is 100 times better than any previous bar. The costs involved were very competitive, as mentioned i tried 3 previous places and searched the net for days before deciding on topstage. if you wanna see my car at any time, or any specific questions please buzz me anytime.

cheers,

shane

p.s. if your guards are too wide your wheel offset may look a little silly. i've got 4 sets of spacers, the fronts are on all the time but the rears i no longer use due to the tires rubbing because the car sits low. if you want the pair, we can work something out.

    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
