did u have to run the tank of 98 ron dry? can u only fill up with e85 now?

can u switch tunes?

I ran the tank right down to the empty line. Yes i can only run E85 if i want to drive it to its potential but you can get away with running 98 if you get stuck just won't be able to hit the loud pedal.

Adrian has my 98 tune saved in his lap top if i wanted to switch between the tunes, would have to wind the boost back down to 19psi also.

very impressive Lee!!

Where is your tuner located mate?

Thanks Ryan.......How your car coming along?

Adrian (180or200) tuned the car, as for his location you might want to shoot him a PM.

thats a very impressive jump of power by just changing to a different fuel

sheesh that will definately be a part of my plans soon....

how is the fuel economy on the e85???

did u change all your fuel lines etc

It's the fuel that lets you run the bigger boost and more timing add to that 105 octane and your in for more power.

Not too sure on fuel economy but anything making decent power will use more its just the way it is.

I have not changed fuel lines just standard Nissan but they obviously have to be in good order before you start which could be said for engine gearbox diff etc also.

Awesome results! Congrat's Lee.

I'm hoping mine is done in the next few days ;-)

Lee, what size injectors are you running now, same as before? And did you do a before and after back-to-back dyno?

I love E85.

I'm still running 555's which are seeing around 90-92 % duty which Adrian was a bit surprised at. Maybe the Nismo pump is doing its job properly not sure. On the RB25 upgrade thread there is a before and after tune. E85 is definately good stuff still getting used to all the extra torque.

how many tanks have you been through Lee

one tank at this stage dont drive it to work.....Went to Pooraka and back today and seemed to be not too bad on juice......Alot better than my old 245rwkw alloy headed XW thats for sure.

Wow! Those 555cc Nismo's are doing a fantastic job. What's the base fuel pressure set at? More than 45psi?

I'll go and suss out the RB25 upgrade thread. I'll have to upgrade the E85 thread too, we've decided not bother doing a back-to-back 110 vs. E85 - Shaun doesn't have the spare time to be doing a test for the sake of it, which is fair enough at such a busy workshop.

I ended up going with 910cc and a new rail to suit, it looks nice and shiny after I polished it at work. The old (still like new) rail and 550's are out and available for sale. I doubt I'll ever need to upgrade injectors again, and I'm over rewiring the injector loom after three changes in 4 years ;)

E85 just makes the whole package come alive, torque, power, response, less lag, the works.

Edit: Just had a look at the graph, look at how that thing comes on boost now! Your tyres must hate full throttle and the first 3 gears?

Still running the standard FPR....Im definately happy with how the injectors are performing no need to upgrade means no head aches. 910's should see you through thats for sure.

What turbo are you running again?

Very happy indeed with E85 the mid range has really woken up tractive effort has jumped from 6600-8800 on the dyno ;)

It sure does 3rd gets a bit skippy. Cold morning and thirds like a light switch for wheel spin, cold winter mornings are going to be interesting.

I've only got 300 at the moment and 3rd can be interesting on coolish 275 MT ET's.

Turbonetics T62-1/T3 Stage 3 (0.63 A/R) The compressor can support well into the 350+rwkw range, but I downsized the Stage 5 exhaust housing to get better response. So mid 300's should be achievable. Knowing my luck I'll be the first one to see no gain at all on E85 ;)

50 rwkw seems to be the average, amongst the few people i've spoken too

Lee's car was a pleasure to tune, everything went great, (except when the charcol canister blew some hoses) all in all was a pleasure, his car is a little more responsive than mine with his smaller exh housing so wheel spin is an issue, a good locking diff should help.

Edited by 180or200

Of the 8 or so cars I've witnessed or heard about, all have gained between 40-60rwkw. How much is yours making again Adrian, and which turbo?

A good locker diff' and/or a gentle right foot when required.

300 on pump now is damn good you should see mid 300's no probs.

Hi Matt

It made 302 on shaun's dyno on the jap vs aussie day, mine gained pretty much 50 exactly, over 98 tune, my turbo is a ATS special, has 3076 core with a std r33 comp cover and a AVo .73 rear, about to put on the .6 garret comp cover to try get the inlet temp's down! mine seems a little more linear than Lee's but i think my Kaaz 2 way is making better use of the power also!

Hey Adrian, ah yep that's right, I remember now 302 and 286 or thereabouts on W's mainline. Awesome results once again, especially through that little comp' cover! Oooh a Kaaz 2 way , nice, I like.

Yeah I hope so, Lee. It should still have a bit more in it on 98, the HKS cams are yet to be tuned to suit the new set-up. Might get a handful of kw on top of the E85 gains.

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
