hey all....

going threw the shitty process of regency (first timer), just got a few questions.

my car is a r33 gts-t type M btw.

1. Rear Windscreen Wiper Has Been Removed/Motor aswell. and plugged. Is that illegal? and should i get one before regency?

2. is it illegal for all 5 lights to light up when braking? went to an autoelectrician for another job, and they mentioned how all 5 light up upon braking.

3. my car is a 1993 did they come with an airbagged steering wheel? stupid i know. but went to Jap Imports (Magill Road) and they didnt seem to know and it went threw my head after getting home (now need to return/exange steering wheel). and any places i can take my car to get an autorized person to fit my stock wheel? indicators do not cancel so that needs to be fixed. mite be the boss kit tho not sure

cheers guy.

may i say a special thanks to sargeant C**T of norwood police station for making me spend 1500 on getting threw regency so far. ;)

just thought someone mite know from previous experiences. that is all. no reason to be smart about it (as was planning on ringing them. just seeing if anyone new about any of this before i went and got in shit with my boss for being on the phone at work ay).

if all the five lights are factory lights i don't see why it won't pass! not sure about the rear wiper but you have a series 1 r33 so you don't have a air bag! air bags only came in series 1.5 and series 2

lol, he didn't make you do anything, ADR's did, he was just doing what he's paid to do

a mate of mine is a cop at Norwood and he seems to think the Sarg is a fair bloke

sorry next time ill try to be an idiot about it.

also try ringing nissan maybe, i wouldnt be going just on what a few people are saying on here.

Hey mate i know the feeling, stupid regency!! I had to go thru there bout 3 months ago, They filled up the entire page with defects!!

Basically everything you have modded in ya car can be defectable. Definetaly put a rear wiper on. Not sure bout lights but u need a eye level light which u have. As for steering wheel it doesnt come with an airbag but best to put on a stock steering wheel (i have one if u wish to borrow). I assume u have an aftermarket sports steering wheel and boss kit. Regency only approve momo and issotta boss kit and steering wheels and they have to compliment each other, eg. if u have momo steering wheel then u must have a momo boss kit. I had a HKB boss kit and momo steering wheel so boss kit got defected :@ :@ ended up jus putting in a stock steering wheel...

some 33's come factory without rear wiper, so i wouldnt be to worried with that, as for the rest,

best to call regency etc to get the info first hand.

lol @ everyone getting shitty over defects, if you modify your car in a way that

stands out like dogs balls, expect to get a new sticker on your windscreen soon or later,

dont blame the cop for doing his job, he didnt write the rule book

my $0.02

ah a friend of mine mentioned something to me tonight. i have a viper 791xv alarm. comes with remote start/turbo timer. i am aware turbo timers are illegal but what about remote start. any idears how i should go about this? anyone got this sorta stuff and been threw regency with it?

Mine passed with the Viper installed, the inspector even remote started the car but was a decent enough bloke to let it slide, just don't give them the keyfob, only your key. They need not know what alarm you have

We're seeing this more and more lately :(

Nothing wrong with modding your car, just be discrete about it. And if you're busted, take it on the chin.

:P

have you thought about calling up regency and asking them?

whats the point, youll call them and get 30 different answers. none of which would be right :P

they dont seem to like all the lights to light up. best thing to do is just take out the globes for the middle two lights and replace em when done. only takes a sec and then they cant have a go at you.

? why wouldnt they want this. if the lights were put there standard its fine for them to work :s

all five lights? im guessing you mean the 2 on each side and one on the spoiler? when i went through i had one on each side and a spolier and past. went through again with the spolier removed and all brake lights working and a eye level light fitted in the rear window and passed. you only need one on each side and an eye level light but if there all working even better.

dissable the TT on the alarm (check the handbook on the viper alarm and it will tell you how to do it) and dont worry about remote start. do as heslo said and dont give them the pager. i did this with my dvd player. took the face off it and they dont have to know its there.

not sure. just when i took my car through for compliance a couple of years ago the inspector told me to take out the globes or hed fail me. might have just been that one guy though, and the rules may have changed.

Ive been through a couple more times but removed the globes for these inspections so dont know if theyll still fail you for em.

Hey mate

I have a r33 s1 and got defected a couple of weeks back

So i went through regency and by the sounds of things you dont have to change much on your car for it to pass

just make sure there is no leaks

looks standard and has all standard parts back on ie steering wheel

make sure you have legal tread on your wheels

dont worry abt the rear lights as i had all 5 on mine working and the inspector said it was fine

make sure the height is legal and also you have a clean looking engine bay

tidy it all up and make it look presentable mate

good luck

    • I know why it happened and I’m embarrassed to say but I was testing the polarity of one of the led bulb to see which side was positive with a 12v battery and that’s when it decided to fry hoping I didn’t damage anything else
    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
