Hey, i bought a R34 GT-T about a year ago and would strongly recommend you look at one of them before you buy a r33. There is nothing wrong with R33's, but you cant beat the look of the R34. Not only that the R34's have a revised engine that has more power and they also have tracktion control which is a great thing for chicks in the wet. Im not sure excaly what models have traction control but mine is a 98 R34 GT-T series 1 - 5 speed manual 2 door coupe. And i know you can get them with a sunroof too.

Well, after looking at numerous skylines, for some reason I prefer the look of the R33. I have no idea why, it's just the R33 is more appealing to me. I still like the look of the R34, both are nice looking cars exterior wise, but I'd just rather the R33. As for traction control, I couldn't really careless to be honest. My XU6 doesn't have traction control and I can throw that round corners quite well in the wet.... For a chick.:(

It's supposed to work at various speeds and only kick in when loss of traction is detected, as is my understanding. Maybe others can also confirm this?

Nope, if you read the image you posted it actually says that it's "varying the angle of the rear wheels in relation to those up front" and "sensing vehicle speed and your rate of turn"...

HICAS still works in GTS-T's without ABS or G sensors so there is no way for the HICAS system to detect traction loss. Its simply calculated on the front steering angle VS vehicle speed VS steering rate of turn.

It usually only works over 80km/h.

It's definitely not a parking aid, how can it be when the rear wheels only vary by one degree? Someone might be thinking of the old preludes: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=b0sVD17WSdQ

^Ah I see makes sense Thanks :)

regarding the 1 degree, like I said only what I've read here. Some other websites I've came across seem to have confirmed this. I might be able to find some later, cheers

You may be in luck Amanda,

There's an R32 GT-R being prepped for sale at Top Secret Imports here in Blacktown, Sydney ATM.

It has done only 80,000Kms and the interior is absolutely like new!

Your budget is $20K and so is this. No modifications except for Susp'n/Springs & exhaust.

I came across it to-day and it has no rust whatsoever.

And I have no connection with that company.

Hope this helps...

  • 1 month later...

Hey Guys...

It's been awhile since I last posted in this as I was on holiday in Tassie when I started the thread and the Skyline I had my eye on was sold before I got a chance to look at it. So I'd put off the search for a Skyline as there wasn't much else that caught my eye. Until now....

Another one has come up for sale. Same deal...1995 GTS-T, White, Sunroof yada yada...

It looks to be for sale at the same place as the other one, and I'm almost convinced it's the same car. Only it's 2k cheaper. Should I be worried about that? It's advertised for roughly $9k + on-roads. Is that too cheap? Should I be a bit iffy about it? Also, if it is the same car, I guess I should be concerned as to why it's for sale again a month later at a cheaper price, yeah?

IF its the same car.. just means it might not be selling.. enquire as to whether its the same car and why the price was lowered.. for 9K i'd be concerned that it may not be in top cond. but that could be anything.. get a mechanic (racv is good for victoria) and get a full test done.. just go over it with a fine toothpick and magnifying glass and be happy that its not a dud before you buy

I was under the impression hicas only kicks in above 70kph anyway?..

Its a weird feeling but ive never really had an issue with it..

Been a skyline driver for 2 years now.. and its fantastic..

1997 R33 GTSt Series 2..

You shouldn't be paying anymore than $12K for a good condition R33 Series 2.. people advertising over this are dreamers..

Mine is in perfect condition except for the gearbox needing some attention and i wouldnt expect over $9k if i sold it..

$12k for a good condition R33 Series II? In Adelaide here its about $12k for a good condition Series 1!

At $20k I'd be looking to spend it on an R34 GTT or late model R33 Series II and splash a few bucks on it.

If you know the VIN, put it in here:

http://raws.dotars.gov.au/rawswebpublic/RAWPubVehSearch.asp

and you can see who imported/complied it. Do some research as that could give you a clue as to what type of cars they bring in.

Feel free to cruise by our showroom, we've got an R33 Series II and R34's in stock now.

cheers,

David @ Carizma

Thanks for that, that's great information. The one I'm looking at is unmodified and according to the website it's recently imported from Japan, not yet registered here. It looks untouched from the photos, the only mod I can see so far is the exhaust.

As for the 4-wheel steering, after learning from you guys that it doesn't affect day to day driving, I'm not worried about it. I'm not exactly the type to be flinging it sideways at every corner. >_< And like I've been informed that if I really don't like it, I can get the lock-bar? put it in and it'll be like it was never there....I hope.

What's the deal with imports being registered? Is there any chance I could end up with something dodgy, compliance wise? Is there any way I check things like that?

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
