authorities should invest in driver training courses for p platers - that way at least if they do get into a situation they will know what to do - other than that maybe they should be restricted to a 4CYL car for the first yr.

You make it seem like a 4cl car cant get past 150 kmh. The simple facts are our roads are shit, instead of making intersections/ dangerous stretches of roads safe it takes a fatality for the government to act.

People died in the 70's... there was hoons in the 70's.... people sped in the 70's the media makes it out like it happened overnight. Cars are no more powerful now than they where back then, if anything they are much easier to control and safer.

just my 2c.

I cant believe that people would actually take that show (or any other current affair/today tonight show) seriously?

That thing that limits your speed by GPS i think would be more dangerous as it limits your speed to the legal speed. How do you accelerate out of situations, its not always about braking to avoid a hazard.

I think more driver training would be the most beneficial to new drivers and encourage drivers to use track and drag venues by reducing the costs and making more events.

I agree with you about the current affair show they have been doing it for years with there so called experts.

Training people to handle the car when its out of control in the wet, ice, sand, mud etc would be more useful than limiting one speed.

Just found this article they are always going on about this stuff!

Lets all just move to malaysia where the cops dont care what you do.

HEY! They DO care what you do ok? I'm from malaysia and I know it..

They WANT you to speed more so it gives them a chance to ask for bribery! Cause otherwise they won't have enough money for the family.. Damn underpaid wages in Malaysia :ninja:

Post of the day lol .Mainly funny because its true.

I take it you were not driving cars in the 70s. Your general point is reasonable, but you need to get your facts straight. A car was considered quick in the 70s if it managed to get to 100 km/hr in less than 9 seconds. Cars with 120 hp were considered to be reasonably powerful, but they also had much less equipment and weight (mostly).

Now the average family sedan has 150 kw (at the flywheel) and despite being around 1.5 tonnes manage to get to 100 km/hr in less than 9 seconds.

Certainly, many cars today are more stable (even without the electronics), have far better brakes and are much safer in a crash. But most young driving enthusiasts today are in cars that can accelerate far quicker and can get themselves into trouble in a shorter distance. That almost certainly makes crashes more likely, but that is debatable (as this thread and others show!). I happen to believe that is the case; others may not.

Cheers.

balls to this shit. i rkn if ya want a high powerd car do an advanced drivers course. plus those retards in there big fat, heavy, dardy, old, bunky v8 condomadors think they have the biggest cars out r the ones ruining it. f**king downies think there 2 tonn rig will whip around the corner at 1012912378912312301230 km/ph. some of those f**king hero kents deserve to die but its generally the innocent ones. so really the public cant win. maybe if they made track days free with all the money they make from those idiots who hoon on our roads. gg.

this aint my 2 cents this is my $5.

p.s. just take down ya P's if ur not speeding then while will cops even bother?:P

yeah.. think about it.

If you have a fast car your gona speed for the thrill and fun of it.. If you have a piece of shit car your not going to because its gona probably make the car shitter then it already is.. or its just no fun coz its a shitbox lol..

Probably true for some of us... but i know quite a few skyline owners who dont speed on public roads. And i see alot of shit boxes tearing past me all the time.

Guess it all comes down to the attitude of the driver...

I agree with Brendan. And I speed more in a shitbox then a fast car!! Not sure why...

I was driving my mates WRX on Friday, doing 80 in a 70 zone (not used to the gear ratio, hard to keep it at the limit :P) and a cop over took me. If I had P-plates up, I would have been fined. I have my Ps on my 33, and every cop will stare as they go past. Take the Ps down, and its like I'm not even there!

the p plat rules are a bit silly... any car can get up to high speeds... the cops are now calling anything bigger thena 1.8L a highperformance car... its just stupid they need to spend more on maintaining the roads etc.. those 3 kids that died on vahland died coz the roads were not maintained, and yes i know this to be true my sister was at that school and the parents wre told the kids were doing max 75km but the front of the car hit the floor as they wn over a bump deploying the airbags and knockin the driver out...

stop with the stupid road rules kids have been speeding since cars came out.. fix the roads

It isn't just kids that speed..

I live half in Perth and half in the country, actually, I'm out bush atm. My point is though, I know lots of people that speed, not recklessly, I mean those people that clock an extra 5 to 15kph over the speed limit, frankly, country people do it all the time. Most of these people are actually adults. After I got charged for hooning in my VL, when I got the R34 and my license back, even my dad said to me that he said if I got charged me and the Skyline would be history, he stipulated though, that if I got a speeding fine or two, he wouldn't be too pissed off, as has sped occasionally (and has been caught) and that he would be a hypocrite to tell me to do one thing and himself practice another.

One of our neighbours was cruising (well, speeding lol) into Corrigin on the way to Perth (2006 maybe?) and was bolting along at 125kph/128kph on the highway(110kph SL). Anyway, the 80 signs comes up in a hurry (as it is placed around a blind corner, one up for local councils! :P ), he jumps on the skids and brings it under 120km. This spot is however, a hotspot for the local coppers the have their radars on (not to save lives obviously, but to sustain their role as tax collectors in uniforms). Anyways, our neighbour got stung, the female copper tramps over to his window and says roughly (I can't recall the exact terminology) "You lucky prick, you just snuck under 120km, I could've done you for reckless driving". I guess that aptly demonstrates the attitude of Nazi honcho Grant "Goebbles" Dorrington and his fanatical squads of SS speedtroopers... I pass traffic going to and from the farm all the time, I'd estimate that over half the cars I pass are exceeding 110kph, it is my belief that this is not a purposeful display of contempt for law enforcement as such, it is a blatant show of contempt for poor policy, over-the-top and largely misguided restriction, the general public don't take well to having their collective intelligence being insulted on national television.

I don't condone speeding, I won't condemn it because I don't see it as the crux of the issue at hand, the facts prove that speed alone isn't fatal, and I'm not at all convinced by the arguments contrary to this.. I must say though that I consider speeding in 4WD's and trucks (Passing road-trains at 125kph is not fun people!). However I put this to you, Germany is a relatively large country considering the average country size in Europe, it is comparitavely the size of QLD. Germany has one of, if not the BEST road systems in the world. Yet, in stark comparison, our country is large, sparse and has very little infrastructure in order t service its own needs. I tell you this, if you lived over 300km from Perth. Would you sit on 110km the whole way? Consider the remoteness of our country... Then consider our services and infrastructure, and then they want us to travel at 90kph (certain proposed speed limit changes)! If you were in our shoes, what would you do..

Still, I will note I've not lost/aquired a single demerit point since getting my license after my hoon charge...

So anyway...time for P platers to invest in S15 Autech's and Elise's :P

The problem seems to be high powered RWD cars, so the solution is understeer safe FWD or better control 4WD.

So P platers should get GTR's :D

Yet, 50% of young driver accidences happen in shit boxes and only 3% happen in performance cars

I agree with Tom on that one. I worked my arse off to afford my car, and I love it. I take off my work boots every time I drive it, I'll always park away from anyone else to avoid dings. I am always careful with it, because I dont want to damage anything, let along crash it. However, I'm buying a bunky soon and I know that this will change.

The unsafe shitters are more dangerous then a sports car with persise handling, enough power to get you out of trouble, and upgraded brakes,

its just stupid they need to spend more on maintaining the roads etc.. those 3 kids that died on vahland died coz the roads were not maintained, and yes i know this to be true my sister was at that school and the parents wre told the kids were doing max 75km but the front of the car hit the floor as they wn over a bump deploying the airbags and knockin the driver out...

only 75kmh??

Probably a combination of poor roads and poor suspension. I drive past that bump quite often and never had any problems at the speed of around 70kmh. But then again i am running coil overs.

Got law suit for bmw? Air bag falsely deploying knocking out the driver and killing the passengers... could be potentially a big problem for BMW if this in case is indeed true. Not to mention the government for posting unsafe speed limits/poor roads. Maybe that's why that information never went public?

However, i have a feeling they were going a lot faster then 75kmh...

    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
    • @GTSBoy yeah sorry i know thery are known for colors bud those DBA are too in colors 🙂 Green will be good enough for me
