I've done a search to see if I can find the info I was looking for, but didn't have any luck, so was wondering if any of you happen to know what size oil cooler would be best suited for a RB25DE.

I do bit of work on the track and oil temps tend to creep up after a while, so I've had a look at some of the oil cooler kits available and there's quite a range of sizes avaiable, but don't know which would be best suited for my application.

big as possable

not true, biggest is not always best. at high track speeds the cooler will do it's job too well and thus your oil will be very close to ambient temp - totally outside it's efficient lubrication range.

as above stated a 12 row is sufficient, dare i say even a small 9 row will do the trick. if it runs too cool, you can always block half of the cooler off using cardboard or something.

what about using a cooler in conjunction with a filter relocation kit? the location kit increases circulating volume, so temps will drop, and therefore in theory you can use a smaller cooler....

??

Thanks guys, umm there seems to a few of different sorts available theres those that run a thermostat and those that don't, the ones without the thermostat is quite a bit cheaper. The one I'm interested in is a 10 row coller with a filter relocation kit, but doesn't have a thermostat, would this be suitable for my car? or would I be better to spend the extra $$ on a slightly bigger cooler and get one that comes with a thermostat?

personally i dont believe that we here in aus need to run oil thermostats, however - you are in NZ and it could be a different story

it depends on what sort of ambient temps it gets to - if it can get really cold when your tracking, like 10degC or less then it might be worth running a thermostat so that the oil actually has a chance to heat up instead of constantly being cooled and never having a chance to warm up

9 or 10 row with no thermostat should be fine Rach. Much bigger and you will struggle to get the oil up to operating temp during sedate driving. That'll be why some of the larger kits will have the thermosts on them.

On the rallycar I'm just going to do a remote filter mount (eventually) and not worry about a cooler at this stage. My motor will be doing a lot more hard and also free revving on the loose stuff than yours will on the seal, so I wouldn't say it's a must, but a cooler is good piece of mind tho.

im making up a oil cooler kit with relocation (can be mounted between the headlights [which is what im doing] or in the corner of the front bar [bigger core]) will have pics and shiet when installed/completed.

ill be organising a group buy on this after im done with mine

prices will be roughly for 5-10ppl

9 row core (to go between the headlights) will cost $230

in the bottom corner of the front bar (13 row core) will cost $250

kit consists of:

JJR alloy oil cooler core

2x speedflow fittings

permacool oil relocation kit + extra high temp rubber hose & clamps.

good thing is that all parts will come with manufactures warranty against any defects etc.

theres a guy already organising a group buy with oil cooler+relocation kits for around $300 + postage.

any interest in it?

Cheers

If I lived in Australlia I'd be in, but I'm located in NZ and by the time you do a currancy conversion and factor in shipping costs, things don't look quite so appealing and the price is on par with what we pay locally

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo 😄     EDIT: https://www.cj-motor.com/gcg-turbo-charger-for-nissan-rb20det-rb25det-high?srsltid=AfmBOooVeOZ6CZ6r1AIv5m-KPaa6BvudIPJTY8LW78khkd-gQlsaCht9 I looked at this and it seems ok? It is that CGC hybrid and it costs around 1250 USD (with back shipping). Do any of you have experience with this hybrid on NEO turbo? I quickly look thru the forum/web and it seems very good.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
