Gt35r Vs Garrett T04z - Discussion (just Post In This Thread To Create A Database)

why all the hate on abit of lag, get it in the right gear and the thing will never come off boost. The t04z would be fine around a track as long as its not super tight. The t04z will make upwards of 650rwhp so its no where near the limit either. People under estimate an extra 80hp top end :)

pretty much the same engine/turbo but one has 6-boost twin scroll and one has china manifold and a dodgy gate

shows what a well set up manifold/gate/boost controller combo can do...

So top graph is brockaz & another setup - both GT35's yeah?

If so, first graph is very interesting in that brockaz setup comes on noticeably sooner than the setup with much better parts.

I wonder what the reason behind that is... interesting

sorry should have explained

top graph

gt26wa = brockas gt35r 0.8x t4 rear on china manifold

1bxx056 = my old gtr t04z divided .084 housing 6-boost

bottom graph

gt26wa = brockas gt35r 0.8x t4 rear on china manifold

builtr = brockas same setup but t04z instead

Using the same boost level is i dunno, arguable.

Remember the turbo's have different areas of efficiency and so on.

Best of running them both where they both perform best and comparing off that IMO.

Indeed arguable. Effiecent range on the GT35 is probably 28 - 30psi and 35 + on t04z.

Brockas like most probably not keen to push to those levels.

All your graph comparo proves is that brockas china manifold / setup is crap compared to 6boost and your setup.

GT35 on your setup would have rocked.

ps. nattalotto get the f**k out of this thread unless ur car is going to be on the road before 2056

LOL coming from the guy that never raced his 26 !!! Simon N has times you got wannabe ......

Final word

IN PERTH GT35 smashs the t04z on RB26. Best single t04z time is like 10.8 on a fully built motor ??

There is more then one GT35 RB26's quicker then that IN PERTH.

that was my point... he need to get daddy to buy 6-boost and tial gate :-)

we dont think silvias are worth mentioning :P plus run a decent mph in your stripped out drag car when the street cars monster you top end ;)

Ah ic ic - makes more sense now :P

Would be interesting to see the GT35 on a good setup i think, one thing that's missing from the comparo's haha ;)

so whats the best result on roller dyno (no happy hubs) for a gt35? like 530rwhp (dcieve)? and best t04z is 625hp?

big difference, some like medium power and some like more power than that its the way it is :P

Nert.

We pushed the 35R as far as it would go. We put 28psi into it and a couple of degrees ignition timing, it made 4hp more.

510rwhp on that dyno is as much as the GT35R will make on my car.

586rwhp is as much as the T04Z will make.

Both setups will not make any more, no matter what we do.

The T04Z should come on a lot harder but thats the fault of the shitty wastegate. Having said that, the wastegate was exactly the same on both combos.

Same could be said for the GT35 as well don't forget

Interesting. Wonder were the restriction is. 510 does seem towards the limit of a gt35 on a 2.6 with pump.

Not sure how many 26's go over 586 with a t04z either.

Peak power does not determine how fast a car is, sure its a good indicator but its not everything. In brockas case the car could be faster with the less HP. The lose of over 110 hp through the lower range is a big difference too :P

Nice result Paul, you should be pretty pleased. As you've already mentioned both your 35r and t04z are laggier than they 'could' be (comparing to the results of others) be so some tweaking of the boost control etc should beef up the 4-5000rpm area nicely.

All the talk of which is quicker would be quashed if someone has the time to plot both of pauls plots in excel then calculate the average power over the usable rev-range (say 5k - revlimit).

So comparing my straight fit cam, stock head rb26 with your all out jun 2.7? :P

all im hearing is waaa waaa waaa i can't crack 130mph in my lightweight drag car with a 35R tongue.gif

Lol.

Big MPH and slow time just shows how poor the car is setup or how bad the driver is :P

I could wheel spin the track and run bigger mph, what does that prove ?

Much rather perfect use of power, fast time with low mph !!

Also quite confident my "low mph" light weight car would be quicker then the 130-135 mph GTR's in the top end as well ;)

If you can't run into the 140mph range with a GT35R, you aren't trying hard enough ;)

The 600+hp dyno plot isn't relevant to the comparison we are seeing here... a before and after with the same car and same dyno, run to the limit each turbo will make with that setup has to be the most fair comparison you can get - surely?

It represents 15% more power with 19% more revs needed to reach 20psi (to rule out the boost controller differences, and make a bit easier on the T04Z). Far cry from earlier in the thread where people were implying the T04Z is comparable to a GT35R in spool! I'd love to see a GT4088R compared with these things :P

    • I'll probably be putting the shit box back on the dyno again soon, I want to dial in the closed loop boost control properly. I'll have a camera facing the car/motor for fun too. Just note, there are essentially 3x 10AN inlets going into the catch can and 1x going back to the intake pipe. Most of the time the catch can "return" to the sump actually is the crank case breather, pushing air out.
    • I have the R3C with a Nismo slave and by no means does it behave like a stocker, it ain’t THAT bad. On take off just give a bit more throttle than you would say a coppermix and it’s fine. It will not slip though.
    • Okay. Final round of testing done. Got a friend to hook up a fancy scanner to the car and we also ran some compression and leakdown tests, she is healthy.  The MAF was definitely the culprit. So for future reference anyone with similar issues that find this thread. I suggest the following steps, in order of affordability:   Check your spark plugs for any fouling, replace plugs if they are bad or re adjust the gaps making it narrower (0.8mm would be good). Check every coil's resistance with a multimeter. It can be done by probing the IB and G pins on the coil pack. Resistance should be around 1.4 (+/- 0.1) Ohms Check the MAF. If you have Nissan connect or a good scanner with the 14 adapter it should allow you to see the voltage on the MAF reading should be around 1.1 - 1.2V when car is idling. But if you don't, buy a new MAF from Amazon and test, then return it. (For instance, I got a Chinese one for $40 that was reporting 1.3v on idle). If you still have scanner, you can run tests on the injectors to see if they are working, just remember to unplug the fuel pump fuse/relay and have no pressure on the line. Then listen for the noises that the injectors make. Clean/replace injectors as needed. Once you find the issue and fix, order thousands of dollars worth of OEM parts to refresh unrelated things (Optional)   PS: Thanks to the absolute legends of this forum for the responses and help to someone that went a bit over their head.
