thks NismoGirl and Knore for recommendations on how to kill time there. guess i either drag my gf along or pop into the nearby cinema for a show then...

unless Gavin let me help him service my own car .... :bonk:

Nah, no ones allowed into the workshop unless they are escorting you to show you something wrong with your car. Which, come to think of it, I spend most of my time in the workshop than sitting down chatting to Amanda :|

One good thing about Gavin's and his mechanics is they like to show you things so you are aware of problems or what things do. When my car had the power problem, he showed me the consult machine to show me what was going on. I kinda understood it, but not really. I learn lots of things when I go down there :D

  • 1 month later...

Its going to be a good 350-400km round trip for me, mines up for a 100,000 service, however allot of the stuff is already done, like...

- Plat plugs

- Timing belt only

- Diff oil

- Trans oil

- Rad flush

- Brake fluid flush

- Fuel filter

- Engine oil & filter

I'll give them a call but can anyone give me a heads up on what else there is?

Do they do...

- Other belts?

- Injector clean?

- Compression test?

Ta for any info!

Only 1 more day till my car goes to gaven and gets a full service ,power fc, tuned on dyno and street and gets the AVC-R wired up and working :) cant wait to pick it up friday afternoon. i took the car to gaven 2 weeks ago just to get a check over as i just got it from japan etc. when i picked it up and asked him why arnt the turbos boosting till so late, his eyes opened up and he replyed with they are N1's your looking at 600hp+ after you buy a power fc and i tune it. LOL :) I CANT WAIT !!!!!

haha man thats crazy!!! Sounds like an awesome car. I was at Gavin's today im getting him to install my FMIC and tune my s-afc. He's heaps busy lately i have to wait 2 weeks as hes all booked out! I feel like such a tight ass when i go there because everyone else spends mega $$ on shit for their cars. He's still nice to me though even though he knows im poor :)

Dont feel like a tight arse. Every time that I go down there, I only get a service and I've been going there for nearly 2 years  I don't have the money at the moment to get anything done. Your lucky your getting a FMIC.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather spend less than spend more :) But that's just me!

Did he give you a price range as to what it costs to do the tuning and install of those two items?? How long does it take as well? A whole day?

Lucky man! I wish I had a pfc and an avcr

nizmogirl, its about $750 to get it all done.

dyno run and all.

very cheap hay. it cost me over $1000 to get my VXSS V8 tuned with LS1edit on a dyno.

he said to drop of the car tomorrow (thursday morning) and it will take 2 days so im guessing friday arvo i can pik her up

    • My guesstimate, with no real numbers to back it up, is it won't effect it greatly at all.its not a huge change in position, and I can't see the air flow changing from in turbulence that much based on distance, and what's in front of it. Johnny and Brad may have some more numbers to share from experience though.
    • Which solenoid? Why was it changed? Again, why was this done? ...well, these wear..but ultimately, why was it changed? Did you reset the idle voltage level after fitment? I'm just a tad confused ~ the flash code doesn't allude to these items being faulty, so in my mind the only reason to change these things, would be some drive-ability issue....and if that's the case, what was the problem? Those questions aside, check if the dropping resistor is OK ...should be 11~14 ohms (TCU doesn't throw a flash code for this) ~ also, these TCU designs have full time power (to keep fault code RAM alive), and I think that'll throw a logic code (as opposed to the 10 hardware codes), if that power is missing (or the ram has gone bad in the TCU, which you can check..but that's another story here perhaps).
    • Question for people who "know stuff" I am looking at doing the new intake like the one in the picture (the pictured is designed for the OEM TB and intake plenum), this design has the filter behind the front bar, but, the filter sits where the OEM duct heads into the front bar, and the standard aperture when the OEM ducting is removed allows the filter to pulled back out of the front bar into the engine bay for servicing, a simple blanking plate is used to seal the aperture behind the filter This will require a 45° silicone hose from the TB, like the alloy pipe that is currently there, to another 45° silicone hose to get a straight run to the aperture in the front bar Question: how will it effect the tune if I move the MAF about 100-150mm forward, the red is around where my MAF is currently, and the green would be where it would end up Like this This is the hole the filter goes through  Ends up like this LOL..Cheers
    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
