Hi guys! Haven't been on here for a while and would like some help. I'm having probs with my boost controller and was wondering if anyone else has had problems with these too? Mine appears to not be working as i have hit 20.9 pounds boost when its set at 11psi, yes 20.9! Not good!! Tried it on low which is set to 8 psi and still went off the Richter.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with it?

The controller is about 18months old and brought it brand new from reputable dealer on SAU

Cheers

hey man, i had similar issues but it was a wastegate issue. Have you upgraded turbo or anything?

On mine the standard wastegate couldnt open enough to vent the boost so i was meant to be sitting on 8psi and was reaching 22 :S and i am also running the same EBC.

So yeah could be a wastegate issue.

correct Luke. Hi Lee :(

I have similar issues with my HKS EVC 5.......as Luke said, more than likely a wastegate issue. Are you running cheap short split dump pipes? They seem to be my problem where the gate either is restricted from opening all the way or the passage is too narrow to get around the gate, hence the spike issues.

i have a profec b II also, and you cant "set it to 11psi". you set it in percentages of the turbos capacity or something like that.

from what i have heard/read, the settings for a certain amount of boost vary depending on your turbo and other mods. ie: if you changed turbos, your previous settings might not get the same amount of boost. whats your high mode set to? mines at 57% but thats pulling 18psi. i figure youd want about 30%.

Thanx for quick reply guys! Hey Pete how's things :( . Only have standard turbs. Mods i have are the usual zaust, cooler, controller, pod. Does that rule out issues with wasegate? Could it be a faulty solonoid in the profec?

what do you mean by you have the ebc set at 11 psi and 8 psi? The Profec B spec II work on a percentage increase over stock. Their is also a gain setting which you use to make sure the boost is consistant throughout the enither rev range. eg. if boost is dropping of at high rpm increase the "gain" or if its spiking decrease the gain.

I dont set the boost, my mechanic does on the dyno. Was running fine for the last 18 months until it played up. I dont know the percentage, just what boost it runs which is 11psi on high and 8 psi on low. Either way its not working properly

pretty sure its the wastegate dude. the bolt that is inside the gate, on that arm which moves to allowboost e.t.c that bolt should be plum inside the gate, ifs its out check that or take it back to the dyno place! i had a profec in my car and only ever used high and low boost settings with the flick of a switch no % what so ever

  • 2 weeks later...

i just braught my self a pro fec b controller today, and ive set it up (on-intercooler pipe and con or sumthing to the waste gate... however im not hitting high boost... ive tryed everything like pumping up the gain % etc etc but it wont go over llike 8.8... its in my stagea (rb25 neo) and there are 3 lines that are blocked off now... have i dont it right?

    • Jack the back of the car up, pull that wheel off, pull that sensor out, and put a bore scope into the hole to inspect the outer casing, see if anything looks damaged before you pull the whole thing apart.
    • Ergh... So I pulled the speed sensor out again and the tip was shiny so I think it's rubbing the bearing. The bearing contains the magnets for the speed sensor so I think when the first sensor broke it damaged the magnet ring on the bearing.  This is just a Google image, but there is a hole going to the bearing. So when the tip broke off the old sensor I'm guessing it fouled the bearing... As the magnet is only protected by a plastic cover it would be easy to damage it. So I guess I'm doing a bearing again.
    • My thinking is that if the O2 sensor is shot then your entire above described experience is pure placebo.
    • Here is the mess that I made. That filler there was successful in filling dents in that area. But in the middle area. I can feel dents. And I've gone ocer it multiple times with filler. And the filler is no longer there because i accidently sanded it away. I've chased my tail on this job but this is something else lol. So I'm gonna attempt filler one more time and if it doesn't work I'll just high fill primer the door and see where the issues are because guidecoat is of no use atm.
    • Ok, so I think I sort of figured out where I went wrong. So I definitely overthinked it, and I over sanded, which is probably a large part of the problem. to fix it, I ended up tapping some spots that were likely to be high, made them low, filled them in, and I tackled small sections at a time, and it feels a lot better.    I think what confused me as well is you have the bare metal, and some spots darker and some are lighter, and when I run my finger across it, it' would feel like it's a low spot, but I think it's just a transition in different texture from metal to body filler.    When your finger's sliding on the body filler, and crosses over to the bare metal, going back and forth, it feels like it's a low spot. So I kept putting filler there and sanding, but I think it was just a transition in texture, nothing to do with the low or high spot. But the panel's feels a lot better, and I'm just going to end up priming it, and then I'll block it after with guide coat.   Ended up wasting just about all of my filler on this damn door lol
