hey just wondering if flutter is bad for the car and if so what damage will i be causing the engine turbo etc. the flutter effect is when the small breather hose is disconnected off the stock BOV and bloked off both ends....

please add in your 2 cent :spank:

Ask any VL driver, flutter is SIK BRO!!!

Flutter it the sound made by air pressure that does not release when you close off the throttle body (usually because of a lack of BOV). The sound is the air rushing back from the throttle to the blades of the turbo, and the air gets chopped up.

There IS pressure on this, and it does cause undue pressures on the turbocharger blades, possibly causing minor damage, but my personal thoughts are that unless there is already issues with the turbocharger(s) or the units are old, you shouldn't have much trouble.

B.

In my R31, flutter was so 1989 :(

Sounded awesome, and that car ran beautifully with no BOV. However, my 33 does not like its BOV being blocked off, driveability suffers. The ECU must be more sensitive to the intake tuning.

Myth that no BOV will kill your turbo is BS. My 31 ran 1 bar for 3 years and never had an issue.

Lot of info here about flutter.

By removing the vacuum hose ontop, the bov can still vent due to the high pressure air pushing the piston in the bov up.

Best method is to put a metal plate between the bov and the cross-over pipe.

Expect the car to stall when coming to a stop and becoming real sluggish. The stock ecu hates flutter and will make the car shitty to drive.

    • Learned a bit @PranK To add a twist to this take, I've done some further investigation and turns out I don't know if I even have coilovers. I have Mugen Showa on all corners, which appear to be struts / springs online. Someone may be able to correct me if I'm wrong.
    • Well, i've been told it's going to be in Poland around october - november. It should set off by the end of this month. Waiting for it to arrive is the easy part, searching for the right car, wake up in the middle of the night to see the photos and decide whether to bid or not - that was difficult
    • Thanks mate, i'll keep that in mind. Not sure though if the black carpet will fit grey interior. I'd prefer original Stagea set but if i fail to find one in another few weeks, i will probably come back to you. p.s. - is this original, licensed Nismo product?
