Advice On Where To Live In Sydney......please!

Recommended Posts

first off....i would really appreciate advice as im irish and dont have a clue about sydney.

ive lived in manly for the last 2 months and really like it but im just after geting a new job in kurnell down by botnay bay. so basically i need to move closer to the job as driving from manly is too far.

im looking for somewhere thats close to botnay, but at the same time is good fun to go out in, near pubs clubs etc....pref near the water, and most importantly i want to live in a good area. dont like leaving my car out if there's a hi crime rate or lots of scumbags walking past with keys.

i was advised to move to koogee or ranwick, but google is showing them to be only 20mins closer to the job than manly.

any suggestions guys?

Certain parts of Sans Souci, Monterey, Ramsgate can be quite exquisite. Talk to the leasing agent about what parts eh?

Close to Rockdale Shopping

Just noticed silly me that Kurnell is much closer to Cronulla, Cronulla North and Wanda. They're good places. After dark, perhaps Cronulla North.

Burraneer Bay and Woolloware are upper crust. Shopping is done at Miranda Fair or Cronulla

well i dont want to live very near to work, dont mind a 30 - 45 min drive

it will be a house share...im only looking at spending 200 - 250pw in a 4 or 5 bed house, need to move in with a few others as my buddys are heading for pearth soon so have to get a new gang to hang round with. and because its going to be a house share i will be going through papers / gumtree as afaik property agents dont deal with that kind of thing.

cheers for those recomendations terry, i will check them out on google. i suppose ideally im looking for something like manly only further south....defo past the harbor bridge, but at the same time a bit backpackerish!

jesus im a fussy f**ker arn't i!

Going from Manly to Cronulla is like going from Parramatta to Blacktown. Same same, but different. Same kind of lifestyle but the people are way different.

To have more of a comparison of Manly, give Sylvania a go. Its just about as nice but with less yobbo's and will probably cost a bit less than living in Manly and is kind of central to everywhere. Same goes with Sans-Souci, Kogarah, Rockdale etc.

i really wouldn't leave my car out around Sans-Souci, Kogarah, Rockdale or the Nulla..... plenty of cars falling of the face of the plannet around these areas..... Forget driving a skyline anywhere in the Shire full stop!!! get a car that doesn't attract attention from the backward yobbos or from the cops..... ive had nail pollish thrown at my car while driving down the kingsway on a thursday lunchtime,,,,, even over the last friday night my car got egged for no reason while I stayed at my gf's in Menai, and in the ambush my gf's 2006 Astra Coupe was hit..... down the road a 180sx with mags got hit on the same night..... This happens atleast once every 3 months,,, the crappodores and falcons in the area (even the ones parked on the same street were spared), and this area is allot quieter than miranda or nulla.... the car is immediately associated with wogs and with the yobbo attitude in cronulla your car would be a sitting duck unless its in a secure garage.

sans souci, rockdale, brighton le sans, ect.... have always been a car boosting hot spot, not to mention defecting stations and highway patrol around every corner. Even a few months ago theres an import and HPV scam going around in brighton and rockdale area where people posing as copps are pulling these cars over, looking at the drivers license and getting their address, then stealing their car weeks later from their place of residence. Even their fake license plate that they used on the supposed cop car was an ex number plate from a stolen WRX....

I guess the decision is yours but I would at the very least get comprehensive insurance especially if the car is parked on the street here.

also this rant isn't meant to cause a fuss, what ive stated is fact and unbiassed.... or maybe its allot of bad luck around me... either way they arn't import friendly areas.

i was advised to move to koogee or ranwick, but google is showing them to be only 20mins closer to the job than manly.

any suggestions guys?

I would move to coogee or maroubra or randwick (or mascot) .. 20 mins is 20 mins, you are very near

to the onramps to the freeway, and all the other pluses of the areas put them so far ahead

of rockdale or brighton-le-sands it isn't funny. Especially if you're going to share. As far as

prices they go something like

coogee > randwick > maroubra > mascot

if you want more ideas on the left of that equation, left of, "coogee" just post .. lol ..

    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
    • Probably. I take it that they are also mentioned to be for R34 Skyline? For example.... RDA has that part as RDA7957. I have the dimpled and slotted version of that on my car https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/285518478694?srsltid=AfmBOopKxMuAFpsxZJdB1cam4D5RAj1f9yJyOttPZLAwXVNCOiwlhrIy This is DBA's top one piece equivalent https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364246686631?srsltid=AfmBOorbb0XHQgqTvZLgQPhg70nqJtGvdojKnugum3O2LFSr2h-obp8D
