999.2! where did u snap that?

so what i've learnt today: caltex, peak, shell etc take 95 octane fuels and use additives to achieve 98 octane, while BP uses 98 or closer to it..

i've considered using other than BP but yeah think i'd rather fork out the extra $5-$10

LOL .. thats the BP on Manning Road in Manning ... i'v filled up 98 octane most of the time and i can get around 500KM's depending on how i drive ... i also replaced my O2 Sensor which made a whole lot of difference ... i didn't know that caltex, peak, shell etc... uses 95 and add some magic potion in to get 98 !! that sounds reallly dodgy !!!!!

l can garrantee caltex 98 is way better than bp 98, my gtr revs noticably slower with bp 98

Wow. Thanks for that.

I can guarantee that your assessment is as scientifically valid as your spelling is accurate.

But if you're happy with Caltex 98, no-one else is going to persuade you otherwise. It remains, however, just your opinion.

Cheers.

After that dreaded day where I had to use 91 my car has been running fairly worse for ware... I let the car go on with the fuel gauge for a bit and then filled up again with 98 and man can you feel the difference like straight away... Pretty amazing.

i tell ya ive had it up to here :P with bp now, they did it again bout a week ago

i went to the bp in padbury and saw they had put the out of order tags out again

went inside and askt the guy behind the counter

"oh so have you guys run out of 98?"

he replies "oh yeah um i think so"

me "so where is the closest station with 98?"

him "oh um just get back on marmion and head north for about 5mins and you'll find one"

me knowing thats untrue guidance by mr wanabe nav man/servo attendant i get back in my car

and head down to scabs, what ya know, out of order tags out again

go to innaloo same thing again, went back caltex on scabby rd near the beach, by this time my gf's

tellin me to stop driving like a dick coz im %$#@ing pist off and wana punch the head manager of

bp in the face till he starts chuckin up free fuel grrrrrr

is there a fair trading thing you can compain to so they launch a inquiry to this. it cant be coincidence that all the bp run out of fuel in the same night. Karrinyup BP as far as i know has done this a few times but not often.

Reading the below on AL

" As you are aware we have recently been experiencing problems with inconsistent supply of Vortex 98. Unfortunately, BP have advised us again that due to refinery related issues that they are unlikely to be able to supply any further V98 until at least next Wednesday. Despite Caltex having received a small release of product ex Mobil today, Caltex and alternate supply points have now stocked out. "

" As a base U98 & V98 are exactly the same product with the exact same octane rating, the only variance is the cleaning agents that caltex add to make it a different product, this doesnt change the octane rating. So if you got a batch of low V98 then the same batch of U98 would be low as well "

That 2nd quote, are they trying to say that batches can come in under 98RON? Is there any recourse if there's an ultra shit batch of fuel that melts your engine?

NO it says they use a different detergent in their fuel thats the difference between ultimate and vortex

meh

i dun bother to think about the price of petrol when it comes to filling up the sky.

i just fill her up.. ive been running b98 since import and usually from the same station and same pump! lol

i fill up at bp myaree... ive yet to see them have no b98 fuel b4. Tho i have seen out of order bp 91.

Come to think about it bp myaree always seems to b on the cheaper side of the avg prices .

im sure caltex is just as good. but since my car has use nothing else by bp98 here in aus, might as well continue with it :3some:

Not sure how far you guys are from Koondoola (crappy neighbourhood i know), but i live just down the road from them, and they usually have 98 Ultimate anywhere from 105-109... They always tend to be a little cheaper than most.

bought some 91 for the falcon at bp forry and the sign said 105 but the fuel was 116 didnt notice till i was leaving tho grrr

this happened to me before.

the woman says "i just haven't changed the sign yet"

me "so what, its false advertising i want to speak to some big cheeses"

end result, got fuel at price advertised.

i've also filled up before gone in to pay and someone else accidently paid for my fuel! haha i paid for their fuel cost me $20 instead of $35--wish i had filled it right up.

hmm this 98 debate, I usually get about 400km out of BP98 but I recently filled up with caltex98 and it could only manage about 350km...not sure what happened there.

On another note mate has bought an F6 typhoon and flash tuned it. Just with tuning it is pushing 270rwkw, but importantly the tuner advised that the caltex98 currently in the tank was causing some issues with ping and he had to retard it a bit. He advised that with bp98 he could get about 5kw more.

Even more interesting is his advice to actually use Peak 98, as he said in his experience he could get even more out of it, and that it may in fact be about 100 octane fuel. No idea if he's talking outta his ass but he is the tuner, and I guess the engine doesn't lie when it starts complaining about fuel.

i always found i got more kms out of the caltex 98. But i agree that i saw higher knock readings with V98. However my car was tuned with B98 so i shouldnt really have put it in there in the first place.

This arguement is funny, i bet you's all complained BUT STILL bought fuel when it was over $1.60 a litre, now that its around $1 a litre some of you's are still whinging. wats gona happen when the prices rise again you's are just gona waste more time complaining. Either deal with it or stop buying fuel an ride a fricking push bike around

I didn't buy the skyline to be economical, I then didn't put a 3L in for the same reason and I'm also not strapping a GT35R on there because I want to be frugal with fuel.

    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
    • Welcome mate. Any pics? Even with a DE I'd be well happy if I had that as a 1st car.
