how many km's do you think the engine has seen? a compression test of only 125psi is getting on the low side, i would guess the engine is getting tired so i would be careful, especially if you arent 100% on its history.

Just a thought since you want it as reliable as possible

Engine was built at a tuning shop in japan, put in 8 years ago, I would suspect it has about 100k's on it, I was suprised at the low compression myself, but that being the case I thought maybe it had been built as a low compression engine? Idk, havent seen the internals, will be talking to a local shop about the work I want done tomorrow or on wednesday.

What's so special about not having the VCT? and it's implications re bigger turbos? Hadn't heard anything about vct being an issue before.

yeah i know, most places say no more than 15% variance between each pot, i dont like more than 5% myself but meh...

but in saying that 125psi is very low for a rb25, i've done a far few compression tests on skiz's and the lowest i've seen on a "healthy" running motor is 140psi. If it was mine i would just keep a close eye on it.

CR and compression tests arent directly linked, you can have a 7.0:1 CR engine still pump out 160psi of compression, a compression test is purely how the pistons/ring/valves are sealing.

Not saying its a bad idea, but like i said the title did mention reliability so smashing a larger turbo on a stock tired engine might not work out the best for that part :rofl:

    • Oh right, I didn't realise it was your car. Please do! Makes me feel better about mine. I also have a big scrape on the front left bumper where someone presumably used the wall to guide the car into a parking spot  But somehow all the funds go towards mechanical things and the cosmetics stay forever unfinished... Interesting, I don't think I have seen it before. But after seeing @PranK's rusty roofline on the BMW I'd probably leave it alone. Wouldn't want water to get in there.

    • It's almost certainly a reluctor generating an "AC" waveform. No, ECUs don't generally read those - they're usually set up for PWM square wave 0-5v stuff.
    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?
