Wanting to lower my R34 a bit, something along the lines of the gaurds sitting just above the tyres, instead of about 1 1/2 inches above the tyres like it does now. I was looking at a set of king springs on ebay that are the "low" height ones, and just wondered if they would help to achieve what I'd like to get with my car... I'd like to see before and after pics of anyone that's done it with their R34 themselves.

I'm not even sure if my car has lowered springs because I've not really seen what one looks like with them. Coilovers are expensive and the struts in mine are fine, so I'd prefer to just get a set of lower, more rigid springs and a set of swaybars for it (I already have a front strut brace on it so I don't need that), so all I want to do with it now is lower it a bit.

This is what it looks like height wise, at the moment.

So is it on lowered springs?

I've got Tein Super Street Coilovers (Jap Spec, simply means springs rates are a little tougher then aussie version)

Got em from Slide Performance on the forums here very reasonably priced!

Heres a pic. Mine was lower but then made it higher to perform better on the track.

That's pretty much almost as high as mine man, I'd like mine to sit with a gap half that of yours between the arches and tyres, and get swaybars front and rear so it handles sweet...Apparently I can get Pedders sports riders for mine which are a lowered-spring shock, so they're made to take lowered springs.

In that case it looks like it might already be lowered?? Either that or when they made mine higher again its back to stock height... but still handles great. Also now mine gots front/rear sway bar heck of a difference so you are correct they'll make handling heaps better. Heres a updated pic from my iphone to see if car is actually different height now lol. Pic could of been deceiving.

A mate of mine has the pedders shocks not sure which ones in his 33 i assume sports riders and his car handles good.

BTW: are you rims 17's or 18's? my fronts are 17's and my rears are 18's.

You don't need to go coilovers if you just want the car lowered. You can just as easily, and cheaper too, get new shocks/springs that will give you the height you want and will likely provide a better ride. Plus they will be matched so wont kill the bump stops on the shocks and use up all the travel, like what will happen with lowered springs in standard shocks.

You can also get a set of plain old Bilstiens or something and have circlip grooves machined into them for SFA like I did, instant preset height adjustment of the spring base. Easy :(

Good luck mate.

I got 18s all round on my car Drew. They look sweet but having about 1 1/2 inch less gap alround between the wheels and arches will make it look so much sexier.

Back when I had my laser I didn't have a front sway bar at first, and on the mooloolaba exit heading north from kawana (the big round off ramp thing), my car would roll so badly in the front, and then once I got the sway bar for it there was about 70% less body roll, I couldn't believe it! So it makes heaps of difference.

Dan I really don't wanna have to go coilovers. Might have a look into them Bilstien shocks as they've got a pretty good rep.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
