its a JDM item so its locked to region 2 for a start. . easier to run an aftermarket item in there. see brian at autotainment for this.

do you have the TV setup as well?

(this is a setup question - no TV means its done differently.)

i've got a JVC KD-DV4306 which I just popped in there which plays DVD's but does not have a screen.

Due to safety issues i'm not super fussed if I cannot connect it to the MFD but if not I wouldn't bother with a a/m screen.

So the MFD is locked to region 2? not sure how a cable is locked to region 2, if so does that mean it can be rewired to region 4?

Hurray sourced the part number from Chris Rogers (big up man, thanks alot!) and installed it into the GTR and now I got DVD running through the MFD!

sweet...all you need is a deck that outputs composite in NTSC and the above clarion part.

I bought a JVC KD-DV4306 which is a single DIN headunit that can play dvd's. As it has no screen you have to get an external one, so $199 for the headunit and the cable to the GTR's MFD and DVD with divx playback! works great!

Also means I could get rid of the 2 DIN japan HU and put a pocket in for some space to put my phone. Hurray!!

Recommended! If anyone wants pics of it (it's nothing special) just ask.

to answer a couple of PM's I got...the screen works fine to play region 4 encoded (australian) dvd's, and can play PAL or NTSC dvd's that are burnt copies. The unit itself can also do divx, mp3, wma, etc. The headunit does the work in converting the final signal to NTSC so that it can be output onto the GTR's MFD which can only show NTSC (PAL signal makes the screen B&W and interlace).

the cable that Chris has makes a RCA socket available on the MFD, no soldering or anything like that needed. Just pop the MFD out and connect the cable up to the composite out on a headunit. Just make sure the headunit you have can output to NTSC and all you'll need is the cable.

here's a dodgy phone pic of it in action...

I've done this mod last night, but i can't get a nice colourful image, seems that my headunit isn't outputting to ntsc. I get a flickering image in black and white . I have an AVIC F910BT which i can't find the output options. I'm guessing the video output is set by the headunit by the region. Anyways, i'll try to play a copy of a dvd tonight and see if that changes anything. I played a video from my iphone and it did the same flickering image. that's stupid that i can't change the output of the headunit. I' m tempted to start looking for pan to ntsc video converters.

Sorry to bring up old thread, I got my hands on one of those Clarion cables, and gonna plug it into my MFD.

I just wanna know, apart from DVD/video from the JVC HU, what else can I feed into that lead?

Any reverse camera that has NTSC output? Or is there anyway to convert the MFD to PAL?

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
