G'day guys,

The car is doing weird things. Got a r32 GTS-t.

When I drive, it feels like it drops down in power, and the car starts to jerk.

-No misfiring, just feels like there is no power.

-The rpm's goes from idle (800 rpms) to 1500 rpms -1700 rpms.

-When the car is rolling, the rpms doesn't go higher then 2500 rpms - 3000 rpms, any higher the car jerks.

Checked the fuel lines, replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the AFM (with proper electrical spray), didn't check the coils and the plugs, (though again there's not misfiring and no lumpy idle.)

Pls help, as my car is a daily driver and i need a car.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the replies,

Hasn't popped an intercooler pipe? Is there black smoke coming out of the exhaust when your drivving it?

No piping came loose, and no black smoke out fo exhaust. Thanks

air flow meter . have seen many an rb do all of those things and swapping the airflow meter fixed it . does the "jerking" make the car sound like a rotary with a lumpy idle ?

No lumpy whatsoever. It revs fine but under load there's no transfer of power to the driveline, and after 2500 rpms - 3000 rpms, it jerks.

Sounds like fuel pump.

Thanks mate but change the fuel pump a few months ago, and did the pinch test (pinch the fuel line with a plier and the engine sounded starved. Let it go and engine went alright.).

Fiddled with it some more, and it came down to 3 things,

- dodgy afm,

- map sensor

- oxygen sensor on exhaust.

Now just have to find someone in darwin who has a scan tool to exactly find out is wrong.

Change the AFM to a known working item. Mine did this, revved fine with no load, but as soon as i put it under load it was coughing & spluttering, even after i cleaned the AFM. Test it with a known working item. I was left in the rain a little, mine is a daily at this stage also, but at the time there were no green label AFM's in the state (standard RB20), so i had my tuning shop retro fit a pink label from a S2 R33, now she goes like a gem. Havent had a problem since.

If you're in NSW & anywhere near sydney, let me know & il tell you which shop i use.

Cheers

Yah also just check I know with the Rb25's they have problems sometimes when you start upping the boost through boost controllers without setting them up properly after on a dyno to check air/fuel ratios. Also if you have a Boost controller like a turbosmart T piece, just double check the conections. Also a leaking BOV can cause strange vac problems(mine did after leaking boost past the seal/oring) solved by puttong standard back on. Just little things. Is the charcol canister working correctly, mine was rooted inside causing vacume to bypass the manifold. Yah man just double check everything. Chris's car was also fixed by taking out a dodgy piggy back computer which was slapped in by the previous owner without getting it tuned after. Hope that helps.

sounds like either fuel pump or dead o2 sensor..

well my o2 sensor died..it went into limp mode..and i could rev past 3000rpms..

i had a topic on lik a year ago..

anyways it was just after i got my apexi neo afc fitted..so yeah..

have u had any mods just fitted???

what fuel pump do have anyways??

but that was a few months ago, u did that test right??

and i just changed my fuel pump to a gen. walbro pump...

but i only notice it was started to die..wen going around trun pretty hard...

and having more than half a tank of fuel..and it was jumping..but only for lik a second..

and then there was like some little hesitations during the rev range..now and then

but now with new fuel pump..

problems are gone :D

    • That looks good, but I think you're going to need much beefier side skirts now.
    • They are daft and there's a reason it never caught on. Steering feel? We don't need no stinking steering feel!
    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.
    • Define "starting to fail". Wy not just rebuild them?
    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
