OK guys here's my problem

I tuned my SAFC2 got rid of R&R but still maxing out my afm voltage and getting a cut at about 6200rpm in 5th.

I can't lean it out anymore on top because the ignition is becoming too advanced so my question is can i use the Q45 afm(already got one) and tune this in not allowing ign timing to go too advanced and not allowing it to reach the 5.1V to get this cut? (cuts out for just a sec and then comes back again)

RB25DET

Stock turbo 11psi

Spitfire coils

Safc2

CAI

3"exh

mine did, just over 6,000rpm on the power fc. I had a picture somewhere of the voltages hitting the ceiling.

I tuned around it though, as i Had a powerfc.

But if yours is maxing out at 6200rpm in 5th, why would you need to bother fixing it? Do you do circut work, or do you like racing on the streets above 230kmph?

i dont think your Q45 will work because your ecu wont recognise its signal. your SAFC doesnt have the capability to convert the Q45's signal to match the ecu's (i may be mistaken).

looks like you're going to need to upgrade to another EMS or buy an SITC to go with your SAFC to retard timing up top as you adjust your voltages.

actually that does raise an interesting question

Why on earth is his tuner... tuning in 5th?

wtf :)

I get it 4th sometimes too when it's colder an when it happens it registers high level of knk on the safc -- 150+ which has me bummin out!!!

So is it possible to get around this with the q45 afm and safc2 combo?

The issue is that the output voltage of the safc is hitting 5.1 v so fitting a q45 wont fix it. What afr is it running when it gets to 5v? just before it cuts out. You can certainly pull a couple of deg of base timing to allow furthur leaning of the mixtures which will reduce the chance of hitting the cut.

Afr's are approx 11:6 and ign timing @ 20* Anything more than 20* and i start to get knk on the safc2

If i pull out a few deg say -3* this now means everywhere in the band will now be decreased by 3* right?

My tuning pts are as follows:

RPM IGN AFR

2400 15* 12.4

2800 14* 12.3

3200 20* 12.1

3600 26* 12.0

4000 24* 12.0

4400 16* 12.0

4800 15* 12.0

5200 17* 11.9

5600 17* 11.8

6000 20* 11.6

6400 20* 11.1

6800 20* 11.0

Are these timing values acceptable and how does it compare to a pfc tuned 25 with similar mods?

The ride pulls sweet but has not been dynoed yet. No knk unless i hit that fu@ked up cut or the limiter!!!

You could still lean the mixtures out to 12:1 but if your getting knock then back the timing on the cas 2degs and see how you go. Are you sure the base timing is correct - be aware that you need to check the std ECU data to do it properly as it has idle ignition control - which means it varies timing based on desired idle rpm.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
