niran
Hey every one. I was reading through some of the topics on here on the VG30 single turbo and they all state that full boost kicks in at 2800-3200rpm. However mine kicks in above 3500rpm-4000rpm. The car I have is a R32 with the stock RB20. the mods i have are: Front mount intercooler Pod and CAI VG30 plastic/ceramic wheel ball bearing turbo 3 inch exhaust AVCR Stock R32 ECU I have uploaded a video so you can see the revs vs boost, it’s in bar, it hits about 0.85 bar. The VG30 also is using the standard rb20 turbo's actuator as everyone said the VG30 actuator is no good, hence the reason why it hits around 0.85 bars. The link is : http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=TqtF4yWCAkU i just wanted to know whether this is to laggy for the vg30 or is this ok? Also what could be the reasons why it is so laggy? is there anything i should check to see whether something is restricting it, i also don’t feel much pull, after taking it to a workshop they said it should pull much more harder on boost. Thanks every one. niran Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/250752-is-there-a-problem/ Share on other sites
and3_3
Its an RB20, smaller size cylinder = less exhaust gas = slower spool. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/250752-is-there-a-problem/#findComment-4342960 Share on other sites
heslo
Yep, that's pretty much it buddy, smaller displacement motor so you have to rev it more to feed the turbo with exhaust gasses... You could always chuck in an RB25 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/250752-is-there-a-problem/#findComment-4342968 Share on other sites

niran
hey guys, some one also said if the CAT has collapsed it can cause boost problems is that true? Two different things dude. Yer a collapsed cat converter can cause slower spool up, simple way to check is to take it off! Get your car on a hoist or some jacks and unbolt it (real easy like 4 bolts) If you can't see through it then your in trouble. Where there other mods involved to get it spooling that fast on a rb20? Like an exhaust cam gear? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/250752-is-there-a-problem/#findComment-4343009 Share on other sites

and3_3
A good electronic boost controller will also help the spool up and the consistency of the boost Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/250752-is-there-a-problem/#findComment-4343064 Share on other sites
niran
A good electronic boost controller will also help the spool up and the consistency of the boost yer i installed An AVCR last weekend, just getting the hang of it now, so ill keep playing around with it and get it all running sweet hopefully.. femno
Yeah if you dont have the AVC-R setup correctly you can have low boost in some areas etc. Play around with Duty a bit and then setup the RPM specific settings (Bar Graph).
