hey guys sup! just needed some advice / help

i get a faint "grind" when changing into 4th gear only during 6-7rpm however when i change below that its fine and normal and theres no issue's, changing to any other gear at high rom's there isnt an issue and its all good except for 4th gear i would explain it as a "faint" grind as if some one didnt change gears properly and didnt put the clutch down but not as bad... yes i even made sure the clutch was fully down before going up in gear from 3rd to 4th gear and it still happened at those high rpm's otherwise anylower rpm below 6 is fine so basically is my gear ratio's out or is it my clutch...(doubt it but a possiblity) and if you do know what the problem is... whats the cost and who is it best to go to to get it done i live north side of the river. ( bahahahahaha awww shit i hope its not expensive but when it comes to gear box's ... ='( .... )

anyways any help is appreciated, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Skyline gears boxes are like that.

rofl, no they don't all f**k the synchro's.

but yes, that does sound like the synchro's on fourth going..

you can try some fresh oil, but it will only mask the problem for so long.

if you're shifting at 6k+ RPM in 4th gear dude you must be going pretty damn fast...

if that's the only time i wouldn't be phased, lol i assume you don't drive that fast all the time?

hhahahaha i drive fast all the time an this is the 1st time its happened an that's why im asking these questions cause its never happened b4 hahaha :P yea dont think theres fresh oil in the gearbox... but umm say if it blows... now i highly doubt that... "Touch wood" how much would it cost to replace or repair or get a good working gearbox in or would i be better off upgrading while im at it... i am looking at modding the car since i have a grand to go to paying it off... and well its time to go nuts... ive had the car for a year its a 95 model an ummm mmm yea.... ive heard that its common for R33's gearbox's sync's to go a bit funny... any rough ideas on costs?

once again guys thnx for all the info u share appreciating it ^.^

The only thing to upgrade to is a PPG gearset or something similarly expensive, I highly doubt you're going to blow your box up though.

y would u jump to such an extreme scenario? firstly a ppg is a straight cut box with no synchos just dog rings and not really suitable for street driving due to the whining they make and roughness of the gearchanges. aksi they cost like $10k. all u need to do is put redline shockproof gearoil in it for now that will stop the grinding and prolong the smoothness of ur box. once the synchos get bad enuff that the oil doesnt make a difference anymore then u should look at getting ur syncho set replaced. sure its a lil pricey but it will feel like u are driving a brand new car.

also if ur interested in upgrades before u look at the ppg gbox there is the option of eg. os giken gearsets. last tiem i looked liek 3k from japan

no, not all PPG boxes are straight cut dog boxes.

you can get helical gears with synchro's if you like. hell, you can even get a mixture of straight cut and helical gears.

the 33 gts-t gearsets are pretty strong, just get the synchro's replaced, and you will more than likely be right.

i've seen one last quite some time with 600hp being thrown at it.. :)

If its the car im thinking of, it cops an absolute thrashing to :)

Is that because you can't shift properly?

LOL i can shift properly hahaha... but yea thnx for the info so this "redline shockproof gearoil" where do i gets eeet from? i take it from a performance shop... like... xspeed or somethin?

coventrys sell it

get the heavyweight shockproof, as the lightweight isn't designed for syncho-type boxes.

ok well thnx for ur advice, guess ill do this 4 now an then fix the syncro's when they actually need it... its very faint and only one gear at ridiculas speeds so its not a real issue i just tend to wanna know what i need to know before things get worse.

I was talking to Brad :D

My box crunches 2nd slightly if I rush it and I was considering some Redline shockproof oil but my mechanic said don't bother/don't waste my money.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
