Im trying to organise compliance for my next car but im having the biggest issue with all these compliance centers!

Its driving me crazy. The car is an R32 GTR, its a 1991 model, (before anyone says anything about not being able to comply the vehicle because of its year, I can because it was produced in early January so it can be complianced.) Anyway, because its a 91 model, the car dosnt have side intrution bars in the doors. Some places tell me it dosnt need them and some do..i cant seem to get a correct answer from anyone!

If my dad was around id ask him coz he would know but he isnt. Has anyone ever imported an R32 91 model and needed to get the intruion bars in or not?

One of the compliance centers told me its best if I just get new doors for the car, the 92-94 models already have the intrution bars installed from factory, maybe thats the best option, but b4 i start buying parts for the car I wana know if anyone else has ever had this issue?

From as much as i know every import without them, needs to have them fitted.

Mine didnt come factory (87) and i had to have them done, in both my HR31's actually now i think about it, id imagine a GTR to be no difference.

It would be easier changing the doors and faster, just depends on colour matching

What compliance places have you spoken too?

your probably right, but iv never had an issues with compliancing cars coz iv never had anything under a 97 model, so I wouldnt know as this is my first experience with an older car. Iv spoken to heaps of places..

heres the list lol..

Jap Cars

Transcar

Raw Performance

Sumo Performace Center

Spec R Engineering

Kamikazi Motors

two of the places were really helpfull...but none of them can seem to give me a proper answer, thats why I ask if anyone has ever come accross this issue

I'm from Spec R Engineering, basically as a general rule any RAWS car must have either factory fitted intrusion bars that pass ADR 29 or the RAWS workshop must hold evidence for fitting aftermarket ones. so it will all depend on the evidence the workshop have

I remember there was the SEVS Law, 15 year old car rule.

What can be imported under the 15 year rule ?

Anything as long as it is older than December 1988. Also, there are still a handful of 1989 / 90 models listed in stock which have import approvals issued under the 15 year rule before it changed last year, and these can still be imported under this rule.

Registration of 15 year old cars

We always suggest with 15 year old vehicles that an allowance of about $1,200 be made for the modifications required prior to registration (which can be done by anyone). These vary from vehicle to vehicle and State to State, and may include the following items:

o Seatbelts

o Sun visors

o Child restraint points on the rear parcel shelf

o High level brake light

o Catalytic convertor

o Driver's side mirror changed from convex to flat

o Unleaded fuel filler opening restrictor

o Side intrusion bars

o Dash dimmer switch

o Engineer's sign-off (some States only)

If you are uncertain about what needs to be done for a vehicle you are considering, you should ask the registration authority in your State for further information. Costs of the work can then be determined by contacting a workshop prior to going ahead. While you can make all the changes yourself, we can of course recommend a reliable workshop in your State should you require assistance.

Performance modifications

15 year old cars with performance modifications simply need to get through your State's registration process.

The 15 year rule is separate to the new import scheme (SEVS) so there is no need to remove performance modifications for "compliance".

However, each State has it's own rules on what level of modifications are acceptable, so you should check with your State's registration authority if you are unsure. For example, in SA which is the strictest State, any vehicle must be completely stock standard when registered except for wheels which can be aftermarket (but no more than one or two inches larger than factory).

I got my compliancing done at Carizma International, so ask David who is a member on SAU and see if the rule applies to you and he can let you know if it needs to be done...

Cheers, mate,

yeah, our workshop is Raw Performance Imports, she called us I believe.

15 year rule is now pre-1989 rule, so cars have to be before 1989 to fall under this rule.

Good luck with your compliance quest DNGRUS, give us a call if you have any other questions!

Cheers,

David @ Carizma

:D

So... Meaning Ferah will NOT need intrusion bars?

But its safe to have it right?

needs intrusion bars....i used to work for a few engineers and fitted them all the time...easy job....no problems....just make sure you get a nice job as ive seen heaps of butchered cars due to bars being roughly fitted

Hey, sorry for the confusion. No, she is still importing under the SEVS scheme, which is different than the pre-89 scheme. The rules you quoted still apply for the pre-89 scheme, and side intrusion bars still apply for both schemes as well.

cheers,

David @ Carizma

That's a good idea....I'd still recommend side intrusion bars for safety reasons though, especially on an R32 GTR.

Remember, there's a reason why the government require them, and it's not for looks.

ok thnks for all ur help :P

Iv decided to swap my doors with my bf's R32 for the compliance lol

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
