GTR-N1
+1 about trucks coming down the Mac Pass, especially when they do a left-hander - taking up both sides of the road. I took a group of Skylines (from the Blue Mtns) + 1X NSX to Mac Pass early '07 and some of us do the Pass every 10 weeks (and old Pac Hwy every 6 months or so). We set off from Penrtih in the dark and got to the base at dawn. There's 180 apexes from the base to the Robertson Pie shop. Patrolling is only occasionally done at the top of the Pass for the last 4Km. It's best to wait at the base of the Pass for >2 mins with no traffic going by and then start off up the hill. The only intersection on the way up to the top is a track off to the left that heads towards a canyoning site. At the top, there's a sharp righthander with virtually no traffic there except for a possible cop in wait. During autumn, and after a wet night, one has to be careful about wet patches of road with leaves all over them. Stepping out is common in these sections. Brilliant piece of hotmix tarmac. So good in fact that after refreshments at the Pie shop, you'll want to go down and then back up again. If you have all day, this can be a suggested route... i) Up Mac Pass > Robertson > left into Sheepwash Rd > left into Nowra Rd ii) Down Cambewarra Mtn Rd > Bombaderry and then turn left > 1st speed camera as you arrive at Berry and then left into iii) Kangaroo Valley Rd > right into Kangaroo Valley > Robertson and turn right at the Pie shop into iv) Jamberoo Mtn Rd > turn left into Swamp Rd > Albion Park Rail > Princes Hwy i)-iv) are all testing of you and your car. Beware of occasional driveways on iii) & iv) Two sections of overtaking lanes are available halfway up the Mac Pass and also near the top. The lower section consists of sharp bends/undulations (which Old Pac lacks)/twisties and the top section has sweepers. ENJOY !!! MBS206
The one thing Terry has left out. Mac Pass: If travelling it over late Autumn/Winter/Early spring, be VERY VERY VERY careful of black ice. f**k being worried about the wet leaves. The black ice WILL take you out. If travelling these areas of a night, or around dawn/dusk, be VERY careful of Wombats... I've nearly written a car off up there trying to dodge a Wombat that would have definitely killed me. Also, be very careful of Kangaroos. If you decide to go up near Mt Keira, the warning used to be of a late afternoon or in the night be ware of the deer, but it's now a matter of what ever time of day it is, be ware of deer (I nearly took one out up there around 2 weeks at 1PM...) A friend lives just at the bottom of the start of the "no house" area of Mt Keira, and they constantly have deer around there... Also, there's a few corners on Mt Keira, that look nice and good on camber left handers that dip down, and as you hit the apex dip back up (And make for excellent cornering speed) be EXTREMELY careful of these, as they are often VERY slippery as water sits here, and moss builds. The 3rd corner before the turn off to the first look out (Coming from the bottom) is very bad for this... I know quite a few people who've come off bikes on this corner, and I have spun into the cliff face myself writing a car off... Be very careful! If you don't know either of these two roads, do NOT hammer up them the first time, take a scenic driver, there are some massive bumps that throw you in/out of the corners quite violently that if you don't know how to take, often land you in a tree, cliff, or oncoming traffic. Especially the one on Mt Keira just past I think it's the Scout Camp... mac pass is good fun just careful of the trucks and buses, robinson pie shop at the top is awesome, could eat them all day..... Tristian you fool, Robbo pie shop is actually terribly shit. Especially compared to Alb Pk Rail pie shop, OR compared to the REAL Robertson Pie shop. Any one who thinks those pies are good, has never had a decent pie! You need to venture into Robertson itself. There's a small cake shop in there. N1GTR
Threads like this are going to turn macpass into the next oldpac - eg, full of HWP waiting for imports. You've found the road you're after, please let this thread die and go back a few pages - i doubt the police would read back that far. Oh yeah, if you dont think the police read our forums you're quite wrong Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/253702-wollongong/page/2/#findComment-4389676 Share on other sites

KLR32R
Macquarie pass - goes up to Robertson / Moss Vale or Jambaroo Pass... If you go up Macquarie pass follow that road all the way out along Robertson Road, Youll eventually come to a left hand turn which takes you to Nowra or Fitzroy Falls, there's two seperate mountains there will some pretty scrazy hair pin corners... But beware its wet, ive lived in the area my whole life there is sooo many undercover cars around there now.
