well with those mods you can expect to run a 13.3 on little unevenly inflated 205 tyres with a 2.3 60ft and only using 4500rpm (because you have a blocked injector). This will also be around 235rwhp or so with super rich afrs in the 9's. If you decided to swap the 205's for a set of decent 255's then with a 2.0 60ft you'll be doing 12.9's.

I ran 13.4 without the S-afc or the cam gear.

The great thing about the factory setup is the potential to squeeze more responsiveness out of it. Forget the fmic to being with, when you run out of engine response based mods or you go a bigger turbo then have a look at it.

Forget the FMIC ....

Do you forget what country we live in .... and what season is round the bend next ?

I may only have a lowly silvia, but my experience in cooler upgrades shows there is great power and consistancy to be gained.

40 degree days, foot flat, no ping, chopping skylines .......... Love it

hahaha :) :)

I have read along with great interest on your many posts regarding the stock cooler but i am still un convinced this is the way to go. I must admit you have me nearly convinced every time i finish reading a post but never completely. I am not trying to start another stock cooler argument just hoping you can shed some light on a few queries.

There has been much talk of quater mile times but how do you fare mid summer after say 4-5 traffic light duels on the trot with heat soak on the factory cooler?

is there any sighn of detonation ? a problem i had on my 180sx prior to a cooler upgrade.

Have you had your car on the race track ? and if so how did it go same question as above.

Again im not trying to have a shot just curious of your feed back as you seem to like driving your car and wondering how it fared under these conditions.

A question you have probably already answered but any way how much time off your quater do think you would lose by fitting a larger cooler( have you tested this or the presure drop across the factory cooler).

If a big cooler is so much worse, why is the factory gtr cooler so much bigger? asuming that its only .1 of a litre larger in cappacity

and has 2 turbos that would significantly decrease inlet temps(only an assumption).

Again just trying to clear up some things i have wondered. As i had fantastic gains down the quater when i fitted my front mount went from 14.1 to 13.7 no other changes.(was running 14psi both times)

regards

Beaumondt,

Your too polite :P haha

I swapped my stock cooler for a truck core. Now if people don't like truck coolers, I can tell you its better than the stock one.

I gained around 20rwhp from cooler upgrade. Admitedly a lot of that was in the piping as well. But that is part of the cooler upgrade.

Now No doubt Rev210 has done well with stock core. End of the day its one example though. I don't know where else he has spent time, on tune, timing etc .....

Its a the standard mod's that are known to work well. Cooler, Zorst, Boost. They are Best bang for buck really. There also safe mod's for people not to sure on what there doing.

Rev210, nothing wrong with the Mod path you have taken.

ITS JUST WEIRD :)

Not Wierd. Just informed.

The Factory cooler is not a wonderful unit. It is however, along with it's piping a low volume and 'short path' system. Making the actual time taken to fill the pipes again with boost that much less than some of the larger ic setups. Although it's not hard to make greater peak power, it is tricky to translate that into an equal response time. Response time = accelleration time.

The factory cooler provides a bottle neck at boost above 12psi but really the factory turbo is able to produce excellent power at this boost level, as seen in the example of Gus and his car making over the 200rwkw mark.

I think it is possible to design a better intercooler more suited to the factory turbo and retain the responsiveness. At the end of the day I like to squeeze as much out of the factory system as possible, it's cheaper that way and you know you have improved 'the system' so that when and if I swapped the intercooler the gain will be higher.

The intercooler piping on the factory silvia is an issue, on the skyline it really isn't.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
