what are the differences? man i really gotta go to a tyre place and ask

i dont wanna chew em up quickly but i do want maximum performance out of em in everyway really

drag + street + track

but ill probably have to decide on one way or another or just get a good set for my stokies

less agressive tread pattern, different compound (will have less maximum grip, but will have a lower heat range so dont need to be warmed up as much, but will get greasy at higher temps quicker, also wont wear as quickly)

Whatever tyre came std on STIs on the old model STIs is a good thing. I think they are Bridgestone RE050s, they are what i have on th eback now and they are plenty grippy and a very good tyre. I think they may have been replaced by RE01s, at the end of the day they are similar prices to semi slicks but are better wearing, quieter and better in the cold and wet

lol define all rounder, u say that to a tyre shop and they will fit u with these:

http://www.bobjane.com.au/Tyres_range/tyre...p?mk=1&md=0

if ur after maximum performance on street and track then go with the RE-01R, Direzza Z1or AD07 imo, if ur after a tyre which will give u best performance on track but be legal to drive on the street with, go the RE55s.

yep, RE050's, although i think they are running the improved RE050A model (quite a big difference). same tyre the 17" VX/VZ commies and 18" VE's run i beleive. they are quite a good tyre, but not the same level as RE-01's. they also have poor tread wear, besides wearing quickly they tend to wear unevenly (quicker on the shoulders).

they are a good tyre, but waaay overpriced if you ask me.. i had them on my 33 (picked em up 2nd hand) and them oem on my ss... chewed em up all round and priced another set and it was nearly $350 a tyre for 235/35/18s.. got some kuhmos instead at $235 a tyre delivered and didnt notice much difference at all on the ute, and it 300kw at the wheels.

as for the r32... mine was standard when i got it, only upgrade is coilovers and pineapples... handles like garbage... putting it down to the balloons that its rolling around on... 205/55/16 on a 6.5 rim makes for alot of instability... it just doesnt feel flat around corners... like if you were standing on a plank of wood with a balloon under it.. the board is stiff, but cant get it to the ground..

so my 2c is to keep the stocker suspension at the moment, get some swaybars and bigger wheels and tyres. the stock suspension will help you launch and with swaybars and grippy tyres wil be enough to keep you on the black stuff.

ok i went to bob janes yesterday there's a young bloke in there that has an Ls1 making round the 400rwkw mark

i spoke to him about my beast and he recommended me get the:

bridgestone RE001 Called Adrenalins.

he recons to do this before getting new rims obviously i have my stock rims still

he said bang for buck is these for sure he swears by them for street and every now and then track

just wanna know what you guys think?

they are 225/50/16 for the back cost $235 each

and for the front 205/50/16 cost $220 each

Ive got 17x8 on the front with +30 offset.

With 235/45 tyres it scrubbed, 225/45 no more tyre scrub

Ive got 17x9 on the rear with +30 offset.

With 235/45 tyres they scrub on the back if I have people in the back.

Although this could be due to my shocks being worn out, will update with info once I get new suspension.

I'll be aiming for the Sydneykid's bilstein shocks and whiteline springs package ($1300~)

I reckon pick up a set of r32 GTR rims and get some Adrenalins for them. Would be better than the stock gtst rims you got now.

yeah not sure if i wanna spend heaps just yet might try good set of tyres first on the stockies

hey rekin are you going to the dyno day sat 21st of feb kamikaze motors nunawading?

free calendar and $40 for a dyno run

im iffy about spending good tyre money on your stockies cause they can only provide so much grip.

I reckon pick up a set of r32 gtr rims for $500 and then buy proper tyres for them.

Look on the bright side, least you dont have 17inch rims, Adrenalins are $320 per tyre :D

RE001's are good, nothing amazing, but will do the job. id also look at ur dunlop options, something like Sport Maxx's

I've very recently gone from 225/45/17 fronts and 235/45/17 rears on 17x7.5 +40 rims, to 235/40/18 all round on 18x8 +30 rims. Ride is *slightly* harsher but feels so much more stable and predictable, slightly less traction but feels more pointable (if that makes sense :)).

Oh and that's 595SS's on both the 17s and 18s.

the stocker rims are just too skinny to waste tyre money.. even if you come across some 16x8s at an importer or something for $500.. you can always find cheap rims if you look hard enough. the other option is find some second hand semi slicks... there was some on here, 2 only, $100.. and there were some on light enkei rims for $500... or it may have been $500 for the tyres alone.. but they were like new.

check for good tyre deals on ebay aswell.. at this stage its not worth spending a motza on tyres..

i just got some 17's and threw whatever tyres i had laying around on them, but they are all low profile, and stretched on... rears are different to each other and fronts arent anything special... but the handling and feedback through the car has improved alot, but grip has gone down.. ill get some decent tyres later.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
