You mean, the actual Consult device used by Nissan Workshops?!

If you can find it, pay through your anus for it. I doubt anywhere would sell it.

Otherwise, buy a consult cable, get a laptop, install the Consult software onto the laptop, connect the cable to the laptop and BANG... you have a larger version of it at a 1/18th of the price.

Very nice. How much is it?

Look at http://www.ecutalk.com/interface.aspx for the cable. You can search for it on Google, too, but not many Aussie companies produce the cable.

Then, you're free to download Consult-compatible software! Hook the cable into the laptop and ODB1 port on your car, and you can then pull off error codes and clear them.

However, keep in mind, none of the free software can do the 'cool' stuff like HICAS diagnostics.

There is a local Adelaide mob (PLMS) who offer CONSULT cables (both Serial and USB) for sale:

Hrm, could be worth getting the cable, i got the software. Would probably rarely use it tho.

thats my theory behind not buying it.

you wont be using it enough to justify the costs included in getting it first up

Yep, spot on JRM. They can only do a limited amount of functions/data read-out options... but having the ECU codes is handy!

Hicas diagnostics can be done without any cables... see: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/HI...cas+diagnostics

The only software Im aware of that does HICAS diags is the Conzult software sold by TTzed. Sadly I have not heard from them and will most likely have to get my cable from the manufacturer in the netherlands. Its primarly made for 300zx's but the hicas diag codes are the same for ODB1 cars and it'll work fine. Only problem is its expensive. IF anyone knows about any other software that does hicas diags, I'd love to hear about it

For Conzult (aftermarket software) approx $600 AU for the cable + software. Consult from Nissan runs into several thousands of dollars. You can get aftermarket ODB diag systems from people like snap on power tools but the individual modules are expensive and I'm not sure if they even have one for HICAS.

Yes, its made by these folks here : http://dta-motorsport.com/conzult/

Sadly they decided to chose to export their software on Euro or USD, depending on which makes them the most money at the time, so to get it here in Aus is quite pricey. If I get one I won't mind lending the system out or doing diags for people, problem is its just expensive (relatively)

Except this will only really give error codes (mine doesn't have any), and of course there's no way to get the real-time diagnostic HICAS information - which is what I need; ie: output information about steering angles, etc

I've been in conversations with Eric at DTA Motorsport regarding ConZult and the compatibility of their HICAS diagnostics with the R34; He did indicate that he's tested this on R32/R33 with success, but they haven't had an opportunity to test with the R34. He sent me a test build with limited functionality to test this functionality, but it didn't work for me (though he's unsure if that's a bug in the code or a problem with talking to R34 ECUs).

The ConZult software looks exceedingly expensive, but if it works 100% - it's definitely something I'd consider.

Yeah I spoke to eric too when I was shopping around - r34 system not only has the odb2 plug as mentioned earlier, but the protocol is more advanced. If i could get access to the source code I'd probably build a decent GUI around the backend, and make it so i could use it with a 7" fold out touchscreen.... other thing that is cool about conzult is that you can attach it to a serial 2 way wireless transciever and do budget pit side engine monitoring/telemetry at race events.... just need to wait for my next paycheck before I can buy the damn kit and it sucks getting paid monthly

So getting back to the original question... i guess Boost Worx is the only place anyone can suggest?

Nissan.

Main North Nissan to be precise, have consult units. They charge $85 per hour, or there abouts..

are you sure about that? im pretty sure obd scantech has a hicas section, and its definitely free (it used to be $$$)

S-HICAS is on this screenshot: http://techdiag.co.uk/obdscantech/web/pg000/5_00/startup.jpg

    • The real question is, on some of those wild roads they call highways, how many times did a farmer in an old ute from the early 2000s blaze past you over double lines?   Tassie is a wild and really cool place, and after doing a work related road trip there January of 24, I understand why Targa Tasmania is ran there, and is so tough to do well at! We had a brand new Camry Hybrid that handled quite nicely, and thankfully weren't in an old car, because cresting some of those hills in a 100kmh zone for it to suddenly be like "surprise f**kers, this is a recommended 30kmh hard right turn" wouldn't be pretty. We weren't racing the Camry around, but we weren't slouching in the bends either. But my lord those old farmers know their old clapped out utes, and those roads, as they were absolutely hammering it!   You're also super lucky to make it up to Mt Wellingtong this time of year. It's often road closed with snow/ice! Also, I hope you hit up Salamander Road in Hobart for some insanely good food (I highly recommend the dimly lit Irish pub for a Guiness Pie, or even the bangers and mash!!!)   How long did the Ferry take to get across? I want to do a road trip of Tas on my own time, but I get horrifically sea sick, and I don't want me on the Ferry, just the car 😛
    • So far so good, about 30km on it so far and nothing out of sorts yet thankfully
    • Look at @Kinkstaah's thread on the issue.
    • Hmm not really, I'd say its race car life or modified car life when you make 3 or 4 times the power Nissan designed the car for lol.
    • I'll let others with more breakage chime in, but I can't think of anyone who had a problem with the standard centre plate before they had a problem with the standard gears - the plate generally just gets replaced for safety when the gearset is upgraded. As for the gearsets, its not like they are OK at 600Nm and break at 601. Their longevity is a combination of how much torque you are making and how gentle you are on shifts (or not).
