Hi

First post so dont hammer me about using search function i did try :)

I have a stock 1994 R32 GTR it has 235/45/17 all around, my issue is around corners the rear end feels like it wants to step out (it has a few times nothing to serious though), i also have a 2005 vrx magna which is 4wd, say what you will but it handles like a beast and i hate to say it it feels better than the GTR at the moment around corners obviously speed wise it would eat the magna for breakfast and then some.

What i need to know is who can i take the car to get the stock suspension set up for hard road driving (driving fast around corners nothing too stupid), i have purchased some stablizier bar for the shock tower you know the long thingy that goes from the towers, front and rear (not installed yet).

If you cant recommend anyone if you can let me know the adjustment needed to toe in and camber ill take it to wheel alignment place and get them to sort it.

Obviously i can buy better shocks but at the moment im on tight budget. Also are the stock GTR shocks adjustable can you adjust the ride hieght, if so how? They have GTR written on them so im assuming they are stock.

Thanks in advance.

GTR's have a rwd bias so the car will tend to drift/oversteer and feed power to the front wheels .

It could also be the HICAS 4ws that is making the car feel twitchy @ speed around the corner. DO a search for HICAS. U can get a HICAS lock bar to disable the 4ws.

U cant adjust the stock suspension. Will have to go aftermarket

you can get 4WD torque split controllers, i think Duncan was selling them, might be worth looking into if you prefer a more FWD bias... That and some bilsteins and decent springs(assuming its a street car) will make it a nice drive

Fred, if you suspension is stock, it's ancient and need replacing. Ditching the HICAS is a good start, but a spongy hollowing 32R is a crime. Invest in a prolonged search of the suspension threads before you blow your hard earned on non essentials; all will be revealed. Please don't take you car to some generic suspension guy. Do the research, put a budget together then find the RIGHT specialist. These cars are weapons when sorted properly.

If the front brace is attached to the shock tower and you can see it when you open the hood you have purchased strut tower braces They wont fix power over steer on a 15 yr old car

It would help if we knew where you lived to recommend a good suspension engineer.

Anyway, if you want cornering stability, then sway bars are the best bang for your buck. Look at Whiteline bars. (there was also a group buy on suspension bits).

Your first step need to be establishing that the car works as advertised. Specifically:

1. Are all the shocks in good, working order.

2. Is the wheel alignment good?

3. Is the HICAS working properly and/or completely diabled.

4. Is the attessa system working properly..

To help clarify you need to specifiy which PART of the corner the car is misbehaving in. There are generally held to be four parts:

1. Braking/approach.

2. Turn in.

3. Apex. (zero throttle)

4. Exit (power on)

Depending on where it is going funny will direct you toward what may be wrong with the car. Eg if the turn in is odd it is usually a combination of the HICAS & the wheel alignment making the car feel odd. If it is item 4 then it is almost always the ATTESSA system.

So rather than chucking the kitchen sink at it have a bit of a think about where it is all going wrong.

1. Are all the shocks in good, working order. - Yes working fine feel stiff compared to other cars though

2. Is the wheel alignment good? - Yes it fine

3. Is the HICAS working properly and/or completely diabled. - Enabled

4. Is the attessa system working properly.. - not sure it has it, how would i know?

Where it is happening is, if you just imagine a big round about, the appraoch is fine as i reach the middle of the turn and try to accelrate out of the corners and into the straight , the rear end wants to step out.

I know you have to spend money but i just want to know where? Im in sydney, thanks for the responses so far.

OK so you have an issue with the corner exit behaviour.

Almost inevitably this is related to the ATTESSA (4WD) system. Basically you can get yourself into a situation where the system does not react quickly enough - hence the car behaves like a rear wheel drive car. To get a better perspective you are best off trying someone elses GT-R to see how a proper system works. This will help determine if it is a real problem or merely an issue when compared to the way the Magma drives.

There are two common causes of the problem.

1. Air in the hydraulic system.

2. Wear in the clutch packs.

Check the first one first. Get some ATTESSA fluid & bleed the system. Only then contemplate the second.
