Extract from last weeks Auto Action.

Jamie Howard took his 1st career win at oran park August 30-31, round 2 of MoPro Cup Championship which introducted a new format endurance race with pit stops. Howard took the win over Kegg with Jones 3rd. Kegg and Baker were directed into wrong grid positions and both Howard and HANDLEY capitalised.

Duncan then battled with 3 others poofs and then something must have happened cause he doesn't get a mention after that.

Funny, we did 2 races that weekend, both times I was gridded up in the wrong spot, 3 spots back first race, 1 forward 2nd race - pretty frustrating when you've given it a big run in qualifying...

anyway, sure did capitalise :) was running 2nd until about 20 min into the race. A commonwhore pulled out of the pits directly in front of me, instead of giving way to the car on the racing line, he thought it would be a good idea to just cut in front of me. I went so far off the track thru kitty litter I needed a map to find my way back :(

And something did happen as I battled the other poofs (didn't realise pete was out there :) ), the engine mounts broke and it kinda fell out :(

Man those cars must be crap to drive,,,shit every race they brake cv's,,,crack chassis rails and engine mounts. That Pony-tailed little clown that runs the class must be laughing all the way to the bank. Someone should pull him aside and give him a good flogin.

Actually, I had a disastrous start to the year mechanically - first 3 races I had serious engine problems that kept me out of contention. Once there was agreement that there was a problem.....they did a great job fixing it and it was very much up to scratch at the last race.

Of the 13 daewoo starters there were only 2 DNFs in this enduro, my car with broken engine mount and another with broken gearbox selector.

They sure did have a shocker at the Wakefield 500, something like 5 cars retired with cracked chasis (all in the same spot). ALl have now been strengthed in that area.

I guess I'm trying to say, it *really* hurts when something mechanical puts you out of a race. However, to be fair to these guys, things do go wrong with race cars, and on the whole I think their relibility is OK (W500 excepted...).

The saying is "that's racing", there are plenty of bad stories out there. I'll be running a car for myself next year, we'll see how it goes for reliability, but it won't necessarily be much better.

Vote 1,,, Duncan for your seat at the next State election. I knew you wouldn't bad mouth Mr Ponytail. Just wondering though,,,,who has ever got any prize money outa this bloke?.

rofl teh daewoos are more reliable than teh GTR, farque.

There should be heaps more coverage of us this year, coz the state champs have a special section in Motorsport news after each meeting :(

The series I'm (almost) racing in now is combined touring cars in the NSW State Championships, they're actually racing at Eastern Creek this weekend, but apparently I needed a working engine to enter :(

Last 2 years before that I was racing in the Daewoo series, they were doing rounds in the same comp. This year they are supporting the Konicas nationally

ok, combined touring cars are any car built to Group 3e (production car) specs. 2 other 3E series are (were) Procars Performance and Production car classes, only difference is they run on slicks.

Most of the field is Falcons and commonwhores 6 and 8, a familia, gtir, integras etc etc etc any damn thing you want really :P

    • So, if the headlights' cutoff behaviour (angles, heights, etc) are not as per 6.2.6.1.1 without automatic levelling, then you have to have to have automatic** levelling. Also, if the headlight does not have the required markings, then neither automatic nor manual adjusters are going to be acceptable. That's because the base headlight itself does not meet the minimum requirement (which is the marking). ** with the option of manual levelling, if the headlight otherwise meets the same requirements as for the automatic case AND can be set to the "base" alignment at the headlight itself. So that's an additional requirement for the manual case. So, provided that the marking is on the headlight and there is a local manual adjustment back to "base" on the headlight, then yes, you could argue that they are code compliant. But if you are missing any single one of these things, then they are not. And unlike certain other standards that I work with, there does not seem to be scope to prepare a "fitness for purpose" report. Well, I guess there actually is. You might engage an automotive engineer to write a report stating that the lights meet the performance requirements of the standard even if they are missing, for example, the markings.  
    • Vertical orientation   6.2.6.1.1. The initial downward inclination of the cut off of the dipped-beam to be set in the unladen vehicle state with one person in the driver's seat shall be specified within an accuracy of 0.1 per cent by the manufacturer and indicated in a clearly legible and indelible manner on each vehicle close to either headlamp or the manufacturer's plate by the symbol shown in Annex 7.   The value of this indicated downward inclination shall be defined in accordance with paragraph 6.2.6.1.2.   6.2.6.1.2. Depending on the mounting height in metres (h) of the lower edge of the apparent surface in the direction of the reference axis of the dipped beam headlamp, measured on the unladen vehicles, the vertical inclination of the cut off of the dipped- beam shall, under all the static conditions of Annex 5, remain between the following limits and the initial aiming shall have the following values:   h < 0.8   Limits: between 0.5 per cent and 2.5 per cent   Initial aiming: between 1.0 per cent and 1.5 per cent   0.8 < h < 1.0   Limits: between 0.5 per cent and 2.5 per cent   Initial aiming: between 1.0 per cent and 1.5 per cent   Or, at the discretion of the manufacturer,   Limits: between 1.0 per cent and 3.0 per cent   Initial aiming: between 1.5 per cent and 2.0 per cent   The application for the vehicle type approval shall, in this case, contain information as to which of the two alternatives is to be used.   h > 1.0   Limits: between 1.0 per cent and 3.0 per cent   Initial aiming: between 1.5 per cent and 2.0 per cent   The above limits and the initial aiming values are summarized in the diagram below.   For category N3G (off-road) vehicles where the headlamps exceed a height of 1,200 mm, the limits for the vertical inclination of the cut-off shall be between: -1.5 per cent and -3.5 per cent.   The initial aim shall be set between: -2 per cent and -2.5 per cent.
