Ran over something on the way home and punctured my 1 trackday old re55. the hole in the tread is about the size of a pinky finger.....can't see down the hole to see how big the actual hole is in the tyre.

thoughts? repairable?....it's about 1/4 of the way in from the sidewall.

second option......who wants to lend me a 18" 265 35 for sat at eastern creek? unlikely to get a new one on by then.

take it to a tyre shop and ask them?

i usually wouldnt reccomend getting advice from a tyre shop, but they are really the only ones that can tell u whether its repairable or not as they will be able to inspect it and they will know whether they can fix it or not.

Take the tyre to a type place that deals with motorsport tyres like this and they will tell you if its repairable depending on where the hole is.

It isn't recommended that these tyres are repaired however I have had a puncture repaired on an RE55 and so has Aaron34. Mine suffered no ill effects at around 200kmh around turn 1 at PI and Aarons beast tested his at around 300kmh top speed and around 1:45min lap around PI :)

As long as the puncture isn't in the wrong spot you should be fine :)

how big was the hole in yours?

i reckon i hit a bolt or something....hole could be 8mm....that's how big the hole in the tread is.

i ran over a screw once on re55's got a hole and no spare tyre, well i tired the sopace saver but the car didnt like it at all.... drove home about 15km's slowly.. the sidewalls are nice :) but the tyre was a wreck since driving on the sidewall i wouldnt use it again.

I had a self tapper bolt in mine although I think it was around the 6mm mark. Tyre places have diff sized plugs to suit but I would go to a place that knows re55 rather than just any tyre shop.

As for driving on flat re's...yep the sidewall will get you home depending on distance but you can throw away the tyre for sure.

    • Was the failed sensor by any chance this one? Did it just fail or start pissing on itself? I ordered one too, for fuel pressure monitoring, and now I am hesitant to put it in, hehe. Where did you find a brand one?
    • You'd be insane, when a brand new 8HP is ~$4k, and all the work to put a 6 in would cost the same as an 8 and the 8 is a completely established swap. If you think that getting a cheap Falcon box is going to make it a cost effective exercise, then you're not accounting for the extra $10-15k that the task will consume.
    • any further information on this? also interested in putting a zf6 in behind a rb30!
    • They're all horrible. X-Trails have had a nasty sounding 4cyl since forever, no matter what engine family it came from. The CVTs only made that worse. Then the whole Renault thing only made every Nissan that was contaminated by them even worse again. The only fun I've had in a X-Trail was having it blown sideways across a frozen Minnesota highway at 90 mph trying to make it to the airport to get out of the frozen hellhole of Hoth. Nearly died. Was great fun.
    • Alrighty, I'll have to grab a couple pics and type out something soon in another post. I haven't driven a modern X no, this would be the first one really. Yeah the rental boxes are always cheap as chips right? So I'd doubt that anyone was handing out GTs to go and abuse. But I s'pose I could be wrong for sure. New cars these days though? Pretty unimpressed with what I see now; 20 years and all that, like you said. It just kind of worked out to have these two cars now. I'm pretty pleased with that, don't need much else. I'm sure you lads are right about the temps and for sure, you wouldn't have much time to drive 'em down there if you all were like me. I do hate sweating all over the seats though😆
