well I put 80kmh because that is supposedly when hicas starts to operate

in high speed mode: it'll initially turn the rears opposite, to improve corner turn-in..

if you imagine the tail is stepping out, so to catch it, a natural reaction is to

catch it with opposite lock, and then that happens .. shades of a losing a rear

engine 911 at speed.

did nissan design for no power-on over steer, making the situation really

difficult to get into so you just resist the urge, and always steer always

where you wanna go?

i took my 32 gtr to wakefield and would have to say that cornering with the hicas in was diabolical on sweeping bends, it was unpredictable and inaccurate, it was like you started off with two wheel steer then all of a sudden the rear would fully engage the 1deg of steering angle which would upset the cars balance and direction, for this reason i have removed it!

Depends whether R32 or R33 and whether 4wd or 2wd. It hasn't been an issue with my R33 gtst - a touch of oppy lock many times around 100kph - no vague feeling - behaved almost like an AE86 or S14 (OK actually a fair bit better than S14)

Absolutely sucks.

Remove the HICAS and you will notice opposite lock at high wheels speeds is much nicer.

I removed mine because I like to get really sideways at skidpan and track days.. it is now a lot more predictable in ALL situations (putting around on the street aswell as beating up on it).

Here's where I finally managed to nail the middle turn but got on it a little too late coming out of the hairpin (carried it a bit wide).. with HICAS it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun :(

I've never had any problem when getting some opposite lock in the GTS4.

The warning I got about HICAS is that if you back off in a corner, HICAS will turn you around. If you keep the power feeding into the rear, you won't have any problems.

Maybe HICAS is a little more suited to the 4wd's, I hated it in my rwd and binned it as soon as I could.

For me, personally, I don't want any part of the car doing it's own thing.. it should only be reacting to my inputs, not what some computer thinks should be going on :D

Moneypit, what car do you have?

an r34 vspec ii, and considering whether to hicas lock bar it or leave it as is until I discover what it is like on the track.

"spirited" driving over the alpine pass i didn't have a problem with it, was just wondering if something nasty lurks at 10/10ths.

how much power have you got? are you an experienced track driver, or sort of starting out? what tyres are you using on track? they all make a difference. my advise is try it once with hicas still there. it wont kill you providing you know how to drive within your limits. if you don't like it, then get rid of it. most people that had really bad problems with hicas I would say had hicas that was not working properly and/or worn bushes in the rear end (there are plenty and most of them contribute to a vague feeling rear end). in my 32 GTR when it was working properly it was not a major problem. you get a feel for how to drive it pretty quickly, but it does add sometimes that feeling like the rear is just about to, or is slightly slipping when it's not, but like I said you learn to deal with it pretty quickly. once removed and providing everything else in the rear end is good basically you gain some predictability. if you like going to the track a lot, and end up with more power, and good competition tyres, and better suspension etc then sure, get rid of hicas. if the car is mostly a road car then it's not a big problem. especially if you have a fairly stock car power wise. you shouldn't be getting any power oversteer at 80km/h+ it just doesn't have enough power to do that (unless on purpose). slow speed stuff sure, but not the big stuff.

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything
