A power run is all thats needed, you will soon know if its leaning out or detonating.

If it does lean out or detonate they will jump off the loud pedal and let you know. Ask how the afr's were and they will give u a print out of the base run + afr's or torque depends what you want. IMO afr's are of more value in your instance.

Couldn't buy a decent boost gauge for $40 that doesn't read bad (i.e the speco's and others around its price range etc are crap) :)

+1 thats all you need Bill

from memory the GWW dyno print out has power, afr, boost and torque readouts

so that should give you the info you need on as to how your car is running mate

also the dyno operator if you ask them politely will give you a nice feedback on whats happening under the hood mate

do it and will see you there lol

  • 1 year later...

Hey Bill,

Could you please let us know what the problem was eventually?

I'm having the exact same problem, my R32 GTS4 feels slow. I took it one step further than you and installed a boost guage and it reads 11psi through the whole gear so it's not losing boost but still feels like an NA after 4-5 RPM.

Anyone else have a known solution to this kind of problem?

could be running very rich... best bet is to take it to someone like road & track or boostworx/southern hitech dyno and get them to run the car on the dyno with an air/fuel ratio sensor

that'll tell you whats going wrong in many cases

    • haha don't worry I'm sue you've got more fun ahead buying a 30 year old turbo car....but at least you are in the right place to ask
    • some days eh? The keyless entry and interior light on/off with the key will be controlled by the Body Control Module, but I'm not certain where that is or what it looks like (you might get lucky with a search to get a part#, which could be printed on it). I'd start at the A pillar/ Under dash/kick panel on the driver's side
    • It might be hit and miss, but Nissan Genuine Parts and Pitworks are not the same thing, although both are available from Nissan Dealers with Nissan Part Numbers. Nissan Genuine Parts are the OEM stuff, Pitworks are their attempt to get people back from generic parts makers
    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.
    • Wow, thanks for your help guys 🙏. I really appreciate it. Thanks @Rezz, if i fail finding any new or used, full or partial set of original Stage carpets i will come back to you for sure 😉 Explenation is right there, i just missed it 🤦‍♂️. Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
