Snowman
Geebuz - just when I think I've got my fuel issues under control I find out the fuel guys are only at the lunch stops on day 1 and 2. So thats 114km to lunch on day 1 (ok) - 217km's after lunch (no hope) 195km's to lunch on day 2 and then 232km's after lunch (all no hope!) How the hell do the rest of you get so far on a tank of fuel!!!? There is an extra refuel zone in the afternoon on Day 1 and extra zones in the morning and afternoon on Day 2 - but if the refuel mobs aren't there (and there are no 98 stations) how are you supposed to do fuel regardless unless you have your own crew? Marlin
Day 1. You'll get to lunch day 1 no worries, first coupla stages are just easy driving warm ups. You'll need a splash at the fuel stop in the afternoon of day 1. Day 2. We normally get a splash somewhere after The Sideling. Normaly at the intersection either side of Ledgerwood is a good spot with plenty of room. Then another splash at St Helena from memory (I think there's a pump there?). There's a big long touring stage down to Elephant Saddle, and from memory the boys cut through there to give us more after it which saw us through to the end of the day. I remeber some were also having a slash after Rossarden too. Have the guys who are fueling you actually done it before? Snowman
This is the Elf Race-fuels fuel service that only has stops on Day 1 and 2 at lunch!! I think they call themselves Performance Tyres and Fuels down in Tassie. That's who I was planning on using for fuel but it seems they will only half help me! Marlin
Well we've never carried fuel in the car and I wouldn't. That schedule seems a little short mate. Might be worth talking to Vandenbergs..... they're accustomed to filling GTR's. Marlin
lol.... seems you won't be alone. If MPC is everywhere they were last year, we won't have an issue. Targa Tom
Oh good - sounds like everyone is going to run out of fuel then with me Fuel is only a problem on Day 5 normally. Not sure on the GTr, but if you need xtra get your service crew to take it. You do have a service crew? We normally split the crew on day 5... one car on weekend only duty heads for the top of the mountain. do the 34's use worse than the 7/2km/ltr or do they have a small tank? Marlin
34's about the same...... and an Evo's about that too, and the GTR's are typically making 25% more power than an Evo, hence the range issue. PHaT MR30
Just to confirm fuel consumption from last year is as follows: Starting with a full tank Day1: 49.5 litres at lunch break, 44.8 litres end of day = 94.3 Day 2: 20 litres at Legerwood, 42 litres at St Helens lunch break, 20 litres after Rossarden, 38 litres end of day = 120 Our competitive fuel consumption really didn't start to get bad till day 4/5 with those longer open stages with long periods of WOT and long transports.
