it is very sad that someone had to loose their life.

however they knew what they were doing, and they could have choosen not to do it. why you would want to something so silly and put ur life + other peoples life at risk i will never know.

its a sad thing to hear, but hopefully it will open the eyes to some people and hopefully they will choose not to make the same mistake that these guys did.

I sold at least 50 Sunday Mails this morning at work and the amount of prejudice against Japanese cars in the general public is disgraceful, comments left and centre judging the participants and their vehicles.

Not suprised at the way the story was presented though, the media these days is more about entertainment/catering to people's emotion than presenting actual facts. The worst thing is the average joe doesn't realise it.

RIP to the driver of the WRX and speedy recovery to the driver of the 33.

Why do some of you seem to see it as a right to have a drag stip? You haven't earnt it and never will, if you want one build it yourself. It's not the governments fault your speeding and killing yourselves it's yours.

Yes i'd love a drap stip and yes i'd use it, but i'm not expecting it to happen.

Well the facts seem to be some people in JAPANESE cars were RACING and some ended up dead. Seems fairly in line to me.

Putting what they did on the front page of the Sunday Mail is going to bring up alot of debates.

Alot more public hate against imports, alot more hate from SAPOL and of course, the age old "why don't we get a drag strip back".

It'll be interesting to see what comes out of all this, especially with Mike Rann's view.

He can either:

Fast-track all those high performance bans for P platers (even though the people involved weren't P platers)

Bring out the "lets get these hoons off our roads" speeches

Or even bring up something about the drag strip.... unlikely, though.

In all honesty, when was the last time you saw this kind of import crash in the news in such a large fashion? Was it the 180 on Seaford road a year or 2 ago?!

If you put all the serious road-crash statistics together, I'm sure as hell that the import cars and "high performance" cars only make up 1 or 2% of those stats.

RIP.

We need an affordable drag strip. Kids blow $30 if not more in one nights driving.

$50 a pop to get in to a drag strip + a little petrol - its a hell of a lot more fun and safe than on the street.

Wouldnt stop them. $30 a night for petrol driving around for free dragging ppl - why are young ppl going to spend $50 to do it on the track when they can do it on the street for free? (and no, before ppl say it, this in no way means me, if i do anything i keep it to the hills, hence how dirty my car is all the time and im usually only spotted in the hills on the weekends, or not spotted at all or on my way to/from work)

Sad to read news like this and about a blatant waste of human life.

Sadly I don't think a drag strip is going to stop the street racers either.

Exactly.

And it says in the paper their going to ban p platers from driving high performance vehicles, V8, supercharged and turbo'd cars.... Yeah thats going to stop them. They'll get people taking their p plates off the car also more people crashing in other vehicles. How many kw's your car got cara and you havent got a turbo or anything, going to see more of this around.

Also says the upcoming realese of 'the fast and the furious' movie could have contibuted to it, haha idiots! Who reads that s**t!

Sorry to all families, friends and those at the scene that helped the survivors and the people at the hospital too.. Also to their cars.

I disagree there GTR i'd be more than happy to pay 50 bucks for a night of fun with no chance of getting a speeding ticket. I got a 200 ticket for doing 121 in a 100 zone. On my bike down the quarter mile i'd be doing over 220+ kph by the end, the ticket for that and gaol time is not worth saving 50 bucks imo.

sure, but its not out of left field to ask for a track, a) for quarter mile runs, b) perhaps closer to adelaide (port, south, etc)

You dont get it do you Tangles (all due respect of course)

The Sunday Mail referred to those involved in the accident as 'Drag Racers' and that they were 'Drag Racing'

Public perception of people involved in these sports as being evil, and aligned with murderous acts against the general public is reinforced by the Sunday Mail

Any government that put a cent into 'Drag Racing' after this would be committing political suicide. This accident helps ensure we will never have a drag strip....and furthermore its the 150km/h set on city roads that never attended when we had a strip in the first place. In the 10 years I was a regular there were only ever a handful or WRX or Skylines that went to the track. Most of them hated real world competition, were scared of being judged in light of a cold hard timesheet, and instead did dumb shit on the street like this that destroys it for everyone

Possibly if SAPOL had defected these idiots off the road months ago, they would have saved some young lives in the process. Bet your bottom dollar thats the official position (and more than likely the truth), so get in the brace position, and be prepared for a traffic cop canary hammering and harrassment campaign of the sorts you have only ever had nightmares about.

Now maybe that is my last post? :D

ok, all the people stating that a drag strip will not have any effect please do your research. you are plain and simply wrong......

it will not get rid of all the dickheads, but makes a massive difference for a small amount of chump change considering the income alone from speeding fines in A was over $70 million (cant remember exact number).

i would have thought anything pro-active to save lives would be a little more consiered? also dan your right, imports make for f**k all of the speeding fines, road crashes but the media and gov love them scare tactics

So if Adelaide had a drag strip the street race and accident that ensued that started this thread wouldn've happened?

You are what is wrong with the general public.

Ohh i'd love to hear you explain this.

Lets start here.

The cars they were driving were manufactured where?

Were they "modified" in any way?

Were they speeding when they crashed?

Please get back to me.

sorry dude you must have a short memory it was only a few short months ago the WRX backed into a stobie and killed his mate with the rest of there mates looking on

There should be a drag strip in adelaide i agree, it would get rid of a few of the dickheads but if they did open one up, it would be booked out in a flash and most people would have to wait awhile to drag it, what i was trying to say was that young people can do this kind of s**t on the street every weekend yet at a drag strip they may only get a chance every few months...

And yes, you would think that the government would atleast now consider a drag strip more then before...

2 Japanese cars crashed, one young guy died as a result.

Are ALL Japanese cars deathtraps and are all young guys who drive them complete idiots with blatant disrepsect for everyone but themselves?

This is the mindset of 90% of the people who bought a Sunday Mail from me this morning and felt they had to voice their opinion. Their comments are unjustified, but you seem to think they are 'fairly in line'.

Tell me, is every guy who rides a Harley motorcycle a criminal because a few 'bikies' have been proven to engage in criminal activites?

The same people I spoke to today are the ones who think the bikie laws are a brilliant idea, and the same ones who think Mr Rann is going a bang up job. Are you one of these people?

    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
