Hi All,

Bought a turbo ages ago, and I can't really remember what it is!

Was hoping someone may be able to help in identifying it!

It's a Garret turbo.

I recall it being a T4 core, something about a Sierra wheel (can't remember front or rear though!).

Rear housing says A/R 116, then DH6GA2, then M1.

Nothing on the front of the compressor cover, some random digits in the back all the way around in pairs.

Here are some pics:

Appreciate any advice anyone''s able to offer!

Thanks,

Justin.

Yeah I thought rotor when I saw it too.

No part numbers on the centre cartridge?

+1 on the measure of wheel size. Get your verniers out and then it can be identified. Even if it's got hybrid components, it can still be estimated for power output and approximate specs.

Looks like a TA45 but unsure on the turbine inlet whether it's TA or T4. Need to measure centre of hole to centre of hole on the flange.

It looks like it has a V band flange welded on the back as well as having four dump flange bolt holes as well .

Note the compressor backplate is iron instead of aluminium so it could be from the T04S 60-1 family and modded .

Not a 60-1 compressor (409535-1) because they are 7/14 bladed , maybe T04R or TA 45 compressor on big shaft T04 turbine shaft .

Caliper measurements needed , A .

Thanks for the advice guys. I shoulda been a bit more careful with the piece of paper containing the info!!

I'll borrow a set of verniers and get some measurements.

If its a hybrid (which is seems it is), only way is to measure the wheels.

1.16 housing - its probably off a rotor with a housing like that

I do recall it being a hybrid, T4 seems to ring a bell, but it's definitely bigger than your average T3/T4 hybrid.

1.16 housing - it's actually off an aftermarket turbo'd 4l Falcon - plenty of exhaust flow there!

Only markings I can find on the centre cartridge are a Y on the top, A on the bottom, and 4.5 on one of the sides.

Yep, V band flange.

Again, thanks for all the advice so far guys, much appreciated!

The XR6 turbo doesnt even run a rear housing that large, and will make over 350rwkw on a factory turbo... and its FAR from a 1.16!

My bet is the butchers turbo you have above wont get close to that marker anyhow... so with a housing that large...

... I maintain its rotor only application

No worries, thanks for your advice.

It has run 325rwkw at 20psi, through an auto with a 3000 stall - so 350 at the treads at the same boost in a manual would be a comparable figure.

But with less response than a GT35 that comes factory on the XR6-t... and GT35 will make more power!

Is definately not a win-win situation...

And im skeptical of dyno results at the best of times when people are selling stuff.

Yep, agree 100%

Definitely not ideal with that size rear housing but oh well!

As for the results, yeah I'm a sceptic too, but I saw the sheets and the rest of the hardware myself, and it all seems pretty genuine.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
