Oil Restrictors --- Pics

Recommended Posts

Ok experts....... got a weird one.........

Just to be prudent before i machine up some bungs, i though id measure the little bores to make sure mine was 6mm, as i take nothing for gospel , espeially when its a 1min job.

Now 6mm is fine, but then i though, as i did initially, the restrictors look small.....

In The RB oil thread only ONE guy mentions this ....... i found ALL 3 of my restrictors are about 1.3 mm .........

No one replied to him....... so im not sure if its std or not .....

Im just worried the VCT isnt getting enough...

So what is the consensus on the stock RB25DET S1 oil restrictor size ?? I mean everyone just seems to assume and go on what they have heard..... who has measured ??

..... Specifically for me, what is the std VCT oil restrictor size. ??? I guess i could still block the middle off and leave the rear 1.3mm restrictor. But i am concerned the VCT is too small....

And also just keen to know if S1 std is not the same as what i have,.... which would throw another spanner in the works. !

lucky i have a spare s1 block at work.

I measured the hole size and I got about 1.3ish too. Across the board. Answer is (as i would do it), leave the vct std, machine up one bung to block off one feed and machine up another bung with the 1.2mm hole, or is it 1.0mm? Been a while...Std pump, id go 1.2mm, anything aftermarket 1.0mm. And that is all from experience

thanks Michael,

I'll just block off the middle one. For the sake of .1mm im not going to touch the rear one... plus in SK's oil restrictor guide, he reccomends std vct, block middle and 1.5mm rear ..... so its already below that.

And in combo with the rear oil drain, should be well and truly fine.

    • Grease the poly bushes as your first order of business. Moly grease. Spanner check everything else. Inspect LCA inner bushes.
    • It's usually associated with a muffler. Often in the middle of the muffler, sometimes at an inlet. Not removable by just slipping something out. usually needs butchery (read outright replacement of the muffler). There's absolutely nothing magic about any Jap exhaust brand. Totally generic. Totally replaceable with anything else that will do the job. I've replaced the centre muffler in mine a couple of times.
    • I've had a 9280, 9280's in stock form produce a bit of a whine when coming on unlike the 9180 so you may already like the turbo sound as it is.
    • So everytime the car is changing momentum, say you were going forward, and then you brake, itll do the creaking  and then wont happen when you brake again while still going forward. but once you put it into reverse and then you brake itll creak, but wont creak any more after while still reversing. And then again, when you go back to forward and the first time you brake, itll creak.  ( note will only happen the first time you brake when traveling a direction ). Wont happen, when youre going up speed bumps or hitting a pothole etc. Sound comes from Front left area.    I'm unsure as to what might be causing this sound so if anyone has any suggestions please. Ive got a set of R34 GTT brakes that I will be installing soon too. (and disregard the gutter rashes, from previous owner(s)... ) Otherwise, it has a shot set of Tein Coilovers, original bushings except poly on tension rods. Car has 138k kms. Video reference :
    • This is a good tip. Two things: Will a JASMA tag literally have the word "JASMA" on it? If not, what does it look like and is there a common place to find it on the exhaust? Nevermind. I found some images. Similar question for the restrictor. Is there a common place it would be located or some sort of indicator that can be seen from the outside? Do I have to drop the exhaust and look around until I stumble on it?
