nar dont like RB26 engine any more just killed another today

ahhh don't I know that feeling. I replace motors more often than brake pads.

anyway....if you've got the budget, workshop and committment a 4wd space frame would be an amazing thing to see. As Brad said there are unliekly to be any built ever over here because 3D rules exclude it. There might be some in jp? It would not be a simpleor cheap job though.

Some smart arse in a GT3RS decided to take the front left hand corner off the old girl in the first corner. I could see him trying to out brake me even through he was on the outside???? Madly on the brakes trying to miss the Twa@t and his front wheel some how managed to tear off my front spoiler and of course the oil cooler had 26 cars behind me so i just kept the car going till i could get to a run off area and pull over. I didnt know he had caused damage to the oil cooler until it stopped and its still stopped :-) locked up solid.

I have not idea how or what managed to get that far in to get to the bloody thing as it well protected. The only thing i can think off is he hit the cooler hose and it ripped the top core clean off. Arrrw well such is life.

waiting to see what the final regs are and then decide on what i do LS1 sound interesting as does a RB 30/26

I personally dont think a 4wd space farme would be that great. Would be good to try and see it running though.

It'd be a rocket when the lights go out but would be carrying alot of extra weight and alot more to go wrong with it as well.

The front runners dont really have traction issues, the cars are that well set-up get the power down and get on with the job minimal fuss.

I think an AWD would be great off the line but you'd have a severe disadvantage over a 12 lap race.

oh that's nice Chris. I love paying to fix problems caused by other people's mistakes. I take it you didn't get an oil pressure warning (reminds me to put light in the return line not the feed side)

Happened to one of the guys in our race last weekend, a car about 4 spots back came flying past under brakes and into the rear door of the car running 3rd, took them both out.

Luckily for him it was a commodore so they just went back to sydney and raped a random taxi, came back as good as new the next day (they must have had a prick of a night though)

Brad.....I'm brave to argue with you on this one but I still don't agree. Those guys would love better traction out of the corners and the total weight of fwd system and xfer case is under 100kg (and local regs require higher base weight for 4wd anyway). I don't care how wide the tyres are and how little rear camber they run.....its still hard to put 800hp down cleanly.

True points Duncan.

It would be good to see a proper space frame GTR go head to head with something like the calibra.

At the end of the day there is nothing GTR in it besides the engine and perhaps some of the drive line.

I really can't see the day when a full floor pan GTR gets down to the min flat mark at wakefield.

I think Jeff's GTR with Lofty at the helm will get the closest once its sorted. Its got awesome pace but seems to lack the corner speed of the other cars so far. No doubt they will improve on it though.

Despite not being able to race it we should build something and try it. I know of a few "cheap" space frame chassis that are floating around which haven't been run in years. There probably a bit behind in development compared to todays quick cars.

You'd have to run a separate front diff which isn't inside the sump though, most of the engine mountings are too far back for drive shafts to line up. Works okay though cause then can make a proper dry sump pan and lower the heavy lump further into the chassis than is possible with a GTR.

Suspension/brakes would need a make over in the particular chassis im thinking of. It had Penske shocks and Alcon's previously but not sure whats in it now, I know it rolls though.

And its got a hideous Gemini body shell (Duncan would probably know the car im thinking of now)

lol I certainly do now. actually that car is in pretty good condition and the motors not too bad. the problen is I don't think anyone wil bre ready ot sopend teh requid budget on a car t ehat 3d will nto let race in aus,.d

It would seem the sports sedan lap record has fallen.

The wakefield site has been outdated for some time but as far as I was aware the previous lap record was a 57.680 which Ricardello did last year.

I beleive thats quicker than an supertaxi has ever circulated as well..

anyway....those 3d guys are getting around there bloody quick, it was warm by wakie standards which I guess helped too. But thats not a race lap so it doesn't count for lap records.

What is funny though....my skyline would have placed 4th in production cars...and they're on slicks, I'm on semis
