hey guys, im not sure if this should be under general Automotive discussion...if its in the wrong section please move it =]

anyways. was just wondering which one would be cheaper, a RB26dett R33 half cut, or a RB30 (R31?) + Gear box + RB26 top end .... planing on dumping it into a S130 project im working on....

or if theres any other alternatives please give me some advice.. thanks guys

I think the RB30 bottom end (no more than $300), RB26 cylinder head (2k complete), and gearbox (which one??) would work out cheaper.

I am pretty sure half cuts are around the 5k mark.

There is an RB30 subforum in the forced induction section on this forum.

a gtr half cut is bout a bit over 6k i think..not too sure... =S i thought about doing a rb25/30 but how much power would that be able to push out of it? and how much would it cost? =S

For R32 or R33/R34

You'd want a 33R half cut for that price, and that way you get the brakes which alone (resale) for ~1500 for the fronts if they are decent with rotors/pads etc.

Sell the dash, cooler and other bits and there is another 700-1k off

So if you dont use all the above its already ~3.5k ... which for a running 26, with loom, and the other lefts overs isnt too bad in my books.

25/30, if you do most of the work and do it right (forged pistons) you should be able to have a running motor for around 3k. If you are using fresh stock internals than a bit cheaper than that. (apparently they are good for 600rwhp) but rb30's have balancing issues so you would wanna get a decent harmonic balancer after you've balanced the whole block.

Im doing the exact thing at the moment.

    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
