As topic suggests, but also I want to remove just about everything else i don't need. ie; spare tire, jack..etc etc.

What do I need to do to make this all legal? And what more, registerable?

It will be cleanly done too. eg. when rear seats are out I will put carpet in to make it look cleaner.

Cheers.

I thought you where removing everything you don't need

Like Chris said, you will need to get it engineered and registered as a two seater. While your at it you should get a pair of fixed back bucket seats combined with harnesses :D

Out of curiosity, why do you want to remove them?

Matt, carpet only weighs 250-500g if even.

I've seen you drive past me once on Mona Vale rd near Terry Hills, I got a black on black R33 series 1.

Anyways, spoke to a reputable mechanic, he said I gotta take the rear seat belts out too. Apparently having no spare tire is a defect. Wtf???

Basically wanna make the thing as light as possible, they are heavy as f**K...anything to shed some weight.

It's a weekend car, and in near future wanna head out and do some track work.

Honestly,

if its just a weekend car, I dont see the point in taking everything out.

My old R33 was a weekend car then I basically brought it out for track use.

When at the track, I took everything out from the boot there, spare, tools, jack everything.

I had taken the back seats out so I didnt ruin them by having my semi's and track rims on them. When I sold the car, they went back in and were clean as and looked like no one had sat in there.

Unless your going to do something like Merli (see his GTR build thread in motorsport) thats where you want to remove everything, old wiring thats not needed, sound deadning, seats, seat belts etc etc otherwise you arent going to see good results from taking what you can for a road/weekend car.

The prev owner of my new car did this...

MX5002.jpg

This was to fit the cage

MX5007.jpg

Well, thats my thoughts and thats why I didnt do it!

Are you thinking of fitting a cage?

Another way to look at saving weight...

Remove aircon and heating

remove power steering

taking out drivers seat and putting in a lighter bucket seat

thats my 2.2 cents :(

don't qoute me, you'll have to read up on the rta website - but if you leave the rear seat belts in, but take the seat out, it's still legal. The seat itself is only a comfort provision, as long as there is a space for someone to sit, and be restrained via seatbelt, all is good. So you can still take the seat out, just leave the belts in.

in reality, its not worth it mate.. the seat weighs stuff all, its foam and material, around a small steel frame... usually around 10kg. 10L of fuel also weighs 10kg.. just dont fill it all the way and you'll get the same effect.. better actually as the tank is behind the rear axle.

you can remove all of the sound deadener and put your carpet and seat back in, the sound deadener is pretty heavy, i removed nearly 9kg just in the rear seat section alone.. that plus the seat would be 20kg i know, id rather the seat than sound deadener.. i havent got to under the front seats yet.

when i had the seat out, the noise was getting to be unbearable, not exhaust noise, but road noise, tyre noise, couldnt hear the stereo and couldnt hold a conversation at a comfortable level.. the seat went back in and didnt notice a lick of difference in handling or performance.

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
