Hi guys,

This may have been covered numerous times, but i remember reading it in a HPI magazine some time ago.

Please, don't give me grief, just answer the question. :)

So i'm thinking of putting a RB20det standard actuator on R34 Rb25det standard turbo on my R34.

Will this hold 10psi flat without spiking and how would i go about the boost solenoid? remover lines, straight bleed?

Thanks

the R32 actuator is rated at 12psi

so the minimum you can run, is, 12psi

it should be fine and is a good upgrade

no need for a boost controller or bleed valve etc

just actuator and away you go

If you want proper electronic boost control, the cheapest option is try the Gizzmo MS-IBC, overkill for what you want though it's pretty good for $300 (sometimes I see it down to $250)

What other input do you need?

It wont effect anything, it will just work and be good. No need to wire up boost controllers etc and set them up.

It is pretty much the limit boost wise you'd want to run anyway, without having to upgrade the ECU/AFM.

THIS was the very first mod i did on my RB25.

Holds boost at 10psi from around 3000rpm all the way to the redline.

10PSI . rock solid, not 12, not 10.1, not 9.9. 10psi.

as for the 2 stage boost solenoid.

cut the ground wire, strip 10mm off and ground it by screwing it under the solenoid mounting nut, done.

drop the bonnet and go for a quick drive.

make sure you put back any and all hoses that you undo. (you do not want to boost 2bar)

oh yea, for the r32 actuator vacuum hose, you're going to need something about 100mm longer.

less than $5.00 from any performance shop.

you'll love yourself for doing this mod, your tyres and petrol tank won't :D

have fun out there.

what mods do you have? fmic, full exhaust?

a lot of people report a slight boost increase (2-3psi) when fitting a free flowing exhaust and a front mount, without touching their actuator or installing a boost controller of any sort.

from memory my last dyno run with stock actuator/smic/dump i hit about 9psi :D

interested in how accurate the 32 actuator really is.

i have FMIC, trust cat back and hks pod.

i also have Power FC but it's not in yet because it's like $650 to tune.

I think, boost is creeping slightly atm 8-9 psi... but i thought it may have something to do with the .8 gap spark plugs...

But quite possible due to the upgrades.

I use my car a fair bit for drifting... and the power bug has really hit me :D

I'm hoping to whack the rb20 actuator on, run 12psi and make around 200rwkws (hopefully this will be enough to keep me slide happy)

I will keep you posted, but atleast i now know i need to ground the boost solenoid wire.

Couldn't i just rip the whole boost solenoid out and run a direct line from actuator to intercooler pipe?

Cheers guys

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
