bigmikespec
Gday, Maybe someone could shed some light on this for me please. Car is a R33 GTR, I have removed the old lower control arm ball joints (turned out easier than I thought) and now I have realised that the replacement part does not have the tapered male socket that fits snugly into the rear axle housings. Are the tapered sockets (probably not the right terminology) removable from the old ball joints? I have spend some "hammer time" in trying to separate them but got no love. Anyone have a similar experience? Photos attached, new on the left (Superpro), old on the right. nisskid
technically yes they are removable, but its hard as f**k. and u really do need it, the GTR hubs are alloy and need the force distribution the cone provides. best i can recommend is if u cant get it off with force, get a very small amount of heat onto the cone (u will probably burn the old rubber boots) and try then getting it off. u may need a press though, depends from each car. btw u can buy the part separately from nissan, let me know if u need the part number. Yeah using an oxy and a puller will be my last options. I tried to source replacement LCA ball joints but Nissan do not list the parts separately (unless I missed something), Nissan list the complete rear LCA as a separate part. But hey, please prove me wrong!!!!! Thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/273747-aftermarket-lca-balljoints/#findComment-4643325 Share on other sites
nisskid
43173 is the part number (for rear). i see no stars on FAST which tell me it needs to be bought as one. call up every nissan dealer u know and ask them for this part, dont sound like ur bsing around and tell them on FAST u saw no indication that they had to be bought as a group. bigmikespec
$42 for a pair of "tapered ball joint seats". Better than over $500 each for complete arms! Found it on FAST and asked for the specific number (43173), oh right... Not worth the effort, rather get brand new anyway!
