Hi guys, just wondering about the system that parkin inspectors use.

Apart from a few bastard councils who can afford nice photo technology for their parking inspectors from all the fines they've cashed, parking inspectors still mainly use chalk on tyres I think. My question is, does anyone know how the chalk system works? Does each parking area score a different colour chalk? Does the inspector chalk a different tyre depending on time of day? etc How are they sure the car they've chalked hasn't gone and come back and parked in the same spot? Must be cuz of the position on the tyre yeah?

For example, if I am parked in a 1 hour zone. I get in the car at 55 mins and move a car space forward. Does that mean I get another hour?

How about if I get in at 55 mins, do a U-turn, then park in the SAME spot. The chalk on the tyre is obviously not in the same position anymore. I've never been caught out doing these things. It sure as hell beats driving 5 blocks for 20 mins trying to find another park.

no, you cant drive forward. You need to park in a completely different 'zone'.. ie you need to drive past a pole basically.

Generally if it's the same zone, then those 4 parks will be within a set of 2 poles with the same sign.

You can park on the other side of the street.. but if you move forward and are still within the exact same poles/parking signs.. then you will get a ticket.

Some people will move forward and the chalk will be on the underside of the wheel.. but some of the vultures write down plates and whatever, so it's not the best option.

And yes they do sit and wait.

In suburban council areas they will literally sit in their cars at 8.45am every single day and wait for parents to stop in the no-standing zone for all of 15 SECONDS to drop off their kids (caus theres nowhere else close to the gate to stop legally!) and then send a $100 fine in the mail. That's because they are not only vultures but sneaky scum-of-the-earth Fckrs too.

I don't do a U turn and come back, no way to prove that I left the spot and I'm sure they won't take MY word for it..

I remember at caulfield, the coles parking next to monash uni. I parked on top level, saw chalk mark on tyre, so moved the car to bottom level and rubbed off the chalk. I still got a $30 fine haha

I reckon it helps to have a car which blends in with the others. Its easy to remember the black skyline amongst all the silver toyota's lol

Moving your car and coming back in 30 seconds isn't an excuse to get out of the fine anyway. They aren't fining you for sitting in the spot for more than an hour, they're fining you because you're stopping someone else from using the spot for more than an hour. If you're leaving a 30 second gap for someone else to get the parking spot then that isn't really fair. As scum as I think parking inspectors can be, park further away and walk for some nice exercise...then you won't have to deal with them.

parked at rmit city campus for 4 years parking inspectors would mark ur tyres generally RHR tyre with a big X on the top section of the tread and we would simply park there all day and just wipe the chalk off.

or some would purpose jamb the ticket machine and put a note on their dash saying ticket machine out of order

      R33 GTR running -9 with no tune

      Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.

      Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it

      Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground

      I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
