LOL - given we are already spending $6K on car rentals for 3 days Bris it's not such a silly idea hey!

And Aaron - not hooking up with Mossy. At this stage we just have a Scirroco for the day. We are only there for the Sat - heading back to Spa that night to watch the FIA GT1's - then doing 2 days at Spa currently in a Caterham. (Unless Brisby tells me otherwise over the next few days! LOL)

Snowy and Brisby in Spa and the Nurburgring travelling by Autobarns. That's going to be too much fun !!!

You should buy a GTR in England and then get Brisby to sell it when you are finished. The money you'd lose for a quick turn around would be heaps less than car rentals.

Do IT !!!!!! Do IT !!!!

Yeah but I've had enough experience with GT-R's to know that 3 days of open pit at a racing track with a one of these cars = 0% chance of something not breaking. LOL

At least with the rentals if something breaks we just hand back the keys and they give us another one.

Plus - it's not like the Caterham R400 is slow (That's what we'll have at Spa). It has a bigger power to weight ratio than my R35 and yet none of it's tricky electronic talent. Should keep us entertained enough.

Here's a lap of the 'Ring in one of them.

In theory communism works.

Start selling shares in a SAU nurburgring GTR gtst

What do you mean unsafe - they look fine as long as you don't try and get out of them :)

You can even do barrel rolls over the top of each other in them!

  • 4 weeks later...

Sirrocos are great little cars, Golf GTi not as good but more fun as they are way less predictable and less stable. DSG gearboxes are still gay but i was glad i was driving a car with one as being a left hook car, a track i almost got lost on...it jsut made it all a little easier to take in. :O

I can promise i was nowhere near the same orbit as Aaron or Snowies times

And also from experience I can tell you that sitting in an unfamiliar LHD powerfull car means you spend a great part of you concentration on doing things within the car (i.e. shifting gears with your right hand takes THINKING about - it doesn't just happen without thought like it does in your own car) which means you can't attack the track anywhere near as well.

Its the same reason why when we know people are going there we suggest the VW Golf or the Scirocco - because it is a DSG and it means if you want to you can just leave it an Auto and drive (which is exactly what Aaron did in that lap). But being in the familiarity of your own car you could do the same thing. And our cars would HAMMER around there. It's such a fast track and that perfectly suits the GT-R's!

Oh, ok. Good point.

    • So my rb is finally having more problems. 2 issues here but I'm here to just to mainly discuss the rattle noise. The other day when I turned on the car and when I take off or go in reverse, there is a temporary rattle noise but when I cruise, boost, idle it's completely fine no rattle whatsoever. I've also done all the servicing, all the health checks you can think of and it all passes with flying colours.  Also the rattle doesn't increase with rpm, it's only at a very certain rpm (slightly above 1,100rpm). My other car also has the same issue every once in a while. Changed the oil recently, no difference. Even took my oil to a lab and everything was quite good surprisingly. Timing belt changed a while ago to. Had the car on the hoist and can't see anything obvious. Tightened a couple of nuts on the exhaust manifold a couple of months ago. 2 different clips uploaded. One of them was supposed to another issue but I'll save that for another time. Thought I'd see if anyone had this same noise before, it's a bit hard to diagnose while it's intermittent. If I'm not mistaken, I think I had this a while back but can't remember exactly. I was thinking if it's doable I'll get someone to hold the throttle cable at 1,100rpm and hopefully it replicates the sound. rb25det rattle only.mp4 rb25det slow start + rattle.mp4
    • Haha wow, yes they do! Will sort tomorrow.
    • Yeah I’ll know when I take it for a test drive and I’ll double check the turbos as well when I have a look at it again.  Just thought maybe they might have done something in the head cause it looks like they’ve taken off the rocker covers 🤔 Thanks for your info!
    • As Duncan mentioned it's likely a remapped ECU, like the the one listed in the link I post earlier:  https://minkara.carview.co.jp/userid/444260/car/444612/2099320/parts.aspx He quoted 444PS with an unopened engine and twin GT2510s @ 1.1bar boost... sounds about right?
