Hi Everyone:

I'm new to this forum and have had a new R35 for about 3 months now. I think I was the second car in Brisbane so you have probably seen my pearl white R35 around Brissie.

I am looking at possibilities of getting my ipod connected to the sound system so that I can use the turn by turn iphone App as my GPS and have already spoken to Audio Express about it and it doesn't sound that easy so anyone with an idea i'm all ears!

G'Day Robert,

Welcome to the forums. I got the fist one delivered in Brisbane by Morooka Nissan. If it hadn't rained all that week I would have got the first in Australia which is what I was aiming for as I've got the last Australian Complied and Delivered R32. Spewing. There was a Titanum one deliverd right after mine, so maybe you're the third. I think I've got a photo of yours downstairs at Morooka Nissan when I took the first photos of mine.

How are you enjoying the new toy? I love mine :pirate: Haven't had much chance to drive it yet as work has been keeping me busy and had to go into hospital for some corrective surgery recently. Hopefully I'll be able to knock up some more K's over the next few months.

On the iPod doc it's looking fairly bad. If you do some searching in the R35 thread there is one entitled what do you wish it came with or something like that. Some of the guys have already done a bit of work in pulling it apart and all that stuff. They even worked out that the VDU is running Linux. Apparently there is an extra plug behind the centre console that can be used to plug in Aux devices, however it's not that simple from what I've read.

When I've got some spare time (December) I'm going to look into developing a mini USB port for it so I can plug in my phone and run MP3's straight off it as an Aux device. I've got a degree in electronic engineering so I should be more than capable of working it out once I can get my hands on the Australian service manual and work out what this "plug" they speak of does and how it's wired. What I'm really aiming at is to develop an interface (mini USB) that will allow me to stream any media from Windows Mobile so I can run video as well as audio. I will get around to this at some point just to prove if it can or can't be done. I'm going to need to find someone with a cobb access port so I can dump the contents of the VDU computer and go through it line by line and work out what needs to be changed or added to the code. This isn't an easy task and will take a few weeks on it's own. At a minimum I'll need to add an extra button on the VDU screen to access the port. Then there is the question of wrtting (I'd rather convert) the extra code required to stream data to it. If I can't do it I know tons of code monkeys that can.

Anyway have a look in the forum and see what you can find. When I get around to my project I'll inform people how the progress is.

Enjoy.

Stuart

Here's the photo I was thinking of.. Is this yours..? To the right behind mine which is the super silver at the front of the picture.. Morooka were talking about arranging a QR day, either way I'm good all I need is a few weeks notice to ensure I haven't got something else booked. Todds problably too busy selling 370's..

I really want to get it out on a track to see exactly what it can do. The best I've had so far is a very angry drive through the hinterland about a month ago.. Loved it.. She responds very well, puts her nose down when you ask her too and just does what she's told.. If only I could find a woman that good.

Hi Guys:

Thanks for the welcoming note:

I have actually got nearly 6000 K's on the GTR now as I drive it to work everyday.

My last car was the V10 M5 and I can tell you that the R35 would leave it in its dust!

The only issues i have had so far are the strange rattling noises at idle from under the car... I actually recorded them and sent them to nissan HQ in Melbourne and to my surprise they had the top GTR technician in Brisbane a few days later to give a course to the guys up here so I took it to him for a listen. To my relief he took a quick listen to my car and said that this was entirely normal. He then took me into the Nissan HQ in Brisbane and gave me a full presentation on his computer and showed me how the transmission and clutch assembly is actually dry sumped so at idle you do hear the teeth of the engaged gears meshing! He also showed me some great video of rash testing of the GTR and it actually performs very well in these tests.

The only other issue appart from the lack of Aux input is the way the rear of the car gets so bloody dirty!!! Only a few hours drive and the rear of the car is filthy...

Regarding the inputs , Stuart you seem to be onto a great idea there. I'm also an engineer but I will leave you to figure that stuff out...

I was pretty disappointed about the lack of GPS and Aux inputs when I got the car so I have an iphone holder in the car now which basically just charges my iphone. I have the turn by turn application which converts it into a very useful GPS navigation but now my problem is that the insertion of the phone into the holder automatically mutes the sound so I cant hear the spoken directions!!

Back to the car however I would look forward to a day at the track so if anyone is doing this then I'll be in.

Just remember however that track days are pretty harsh on tyres so we had better be sure there are some spares around if we need them!

Make that another Electronic Eng on here, (with a gunmetal 35), as well guys and I'm happy to assist when you get into the guts of the AV system. Oh and I just had a look at a JDM display and is it just the font or is the resolution of it better than on the ADMs?

From what I've read the JDM's have a better resolution.

Hi Robert, welcome,

Great to hear another fellow r35 owner.

What are your impressions of the car,

given that youve been driving her for a while , apart from the ipod connection , have you had any problems with the car?

Thanks for the welcome GUNR35.

No I haven't really had any problems at all as such. It is quite a difficult car to reverse even apart from the poor visibility particularly in cold weather as the diffs lock the wheels quite a bit and if you you reverse and turn at the same time it isn't a very smooth ride.

I had to do this the other day backing out of a driveway up a hill and turning hard.... it wasn't nice!

I find that the car still surprises me a lot with its vicious acceleration. I think my son got it right when he suggested that its not really a smooth acceleration but rather more of a slingshot experience was a better way to describe it.

I am interested to read about the supposed improvements in lubrication with the Willall racing oils over the Nissan oils and it seems that they are significantly better and i'm wondering if i could ask Moorooka Nissan to use this at my 10k service ... I wonder if that will void my warranty??

    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
