Um you do know that the sierra is a ford yes??

and also FIA Group A finished around the same time, and so did the Japanese Group A series.

So why would Australia run with a series that was Null and void world wide with no more factory support, From BMW, Nissan, Ford / Cosworth, Mazda etc

Also If you take note of that 92 Bathurst race it was the FORD Sierra fans Booing because if the race wasnt counted back a Sierra would have won.

Soooooo..... Kindly leave your "skylines are the best car ever built" Persona at the door Because These dinosaur bogan Taxis are quite a few seconds a lap faster than the GTR ever was....Not to mention the little 2L rear drive FORD Sierras still owned the GTR in outright straight line speed.

Thanks Kbaibai

Yes, but that's like saying that an Lingenfelter is a Chevrolet, AMG is a Mercedes and an Alpina is a BMW. Technically, yes they are. The only difference is that the tuning arms have had their hands in improving on the base platform. Different suspension, driveline, engines, etc.

Did you also know that Cosworth play with aircraft, yachts, and defence to name a few, and also vehicles such as Aston Martin, Subaru, and Mitsubishi?

Did I say that? I've gone over may statement a few times now and I don't see that anywhere.

Soooooo..... Kindly leave your inane comment at the door.

Consider it left :)

You're right you didnt say it I just assumed you were another one of those GTR fan boys still living in 1992, my bad

Also a random fact - the Gibson GTR's used Cosworth pistons

for starters....have a look at how quick a porshe is...they basicly dominate the nurburgring 24hr

and the GTR wasnt banned...Group A Ended

ok ok.. grp a ended.. it ended because the gtr basically won every race it ever started... as for saying its the best car... it was in its time... r33 was a lemon compared to its competitors yet faster than the r32 and the r34 was a bigger lemon yet even faster than the old r32... they werent allowed to progress like the rest of the world.. but now they have no agreements to hold them back.. we shall see how dominate they can and use to be.

theres a reason why it was given that nickname u know.. and it wasnt because it was "slow" it was because it annihilated its opposition

anyway back on topic... blue r32... wouldnt know.. not in nsw but a nice read nontheless

Grp A ended because of cost, not because of the GTR.

The death of Grp A really started with the Sierra and their monster turbo's. Nissan then went one better and added AWD.

For the other manufacturer's to keep up would've meant massive investment as the majority had no turbo or AWD experience. So you would have pretty soon had a Sierra v GTR series rather than Supercars, and we'd all be complaining that, that was a boring 2 car series :-)

Look up the budget of the Gibson boys compared to 99% of the rest of the Grp A field. They were spending fists full of dollars more than anyone else.

Yeah def agree with you there NISMO

Id hate to think how much Nissan spent to develope the 32 to specificly win Group A, Its a shame really as I still think a Group A / C format would be the best series ever, how ever there wouldnt be many manufacturers willing to delelope a Group A style car for the road these days. The cost to build a road going race car would be unbelievable, The porka GT3 is what 250k? and thats about the only real "production" race car around, The new M3? meh too much of a luxury road car these days, same with HSVs Fords etc and Toyota and Mazda have ZERO in the way of cars that could be raced.

I wouldnt mind seeing a Group C style series where the current crop of V8 supercars go up againts the likes of an M3 GTR Porsche GT3 RSRs etc, The local cars would probly get spanked under their currents rules but It wouldnt be hard to make them competitive.

that is very true.. they killed the motorsport.. which meant.. the gtr pretty much ended the sport... oh well shit happens

now that everyones advanced pretty much equally, we shall see whos the best again.. porsche have been for a very long time now :)

Yeah, I think Grp A has probably been one of the best formats to date. The problem is that the exact rules which made it great, also killed it.

(no caps on development types and spend) I mean even F1 has limits to what you could do, where as Grp A really didn't. Rules were only introduced after a car would come out and smash everything ;-)

The current FIA GT series is probably as close as you could get to a replacement and you can see by they're rules that they learnt from Grp A. ie no AWD.

Other than that you have showroom series' which i like as well, but think the Aus rule of a price limit is silly. Let all comers race and simply have different categories like they do.

Yeah the showroom series is one of the most boring things I have ever seen....been that they have to be currnt model cars...so no real development is allowed because as soon as you start getting somwhere with the car its inelligable because its too old.

FIA GT is good...but not much of the production car left there

I would have love to have seen where group A went if it kept going, beingn that Fords AWD Escort Cosworth was just around the corner along with the R33 GTR and FD3s RX7 and the JZA80 Supra...would have made it interesting thats for sure

    • So been ocd with timing mark but checked from few angle and seems both cam are on and crank is matching as well to the slot on sump and crank pully i noticed crankshaft cover has been robbed as per attached pic. Any ideas why? Could my balancer or harmonic be on its way out? should I replace the cover? https://ibb.co/ZR1JFYRR
    • So now doing the change and first time dealing with rb so little nervous giving engine power and potential for screwing it up When you align all marks and then remove crank bolt, timing move little I assume you can put the bolt back in once you have removed the pully to get timing to where you want? here is pic of my both intake and exchust cam aligned, depending on angle you look they seem to be either aligned or a half tooth or so out. Any thoughts? Should you angle your face and look at each mark that way as if looking straight rather than from above as it can be misleading https://ibb.co/ZpnhcvbF https://ibb.co/4wm2wn4q
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy Haven't really thought of that yet, but you are right. If the hose was damaged it should be absolutely pissing by now. I'll put some heat sleeve around it for good measure since I'm already removing the line anyway. Maybe I'll put on some of the stock hardlines if I ever fully remove the turbos again. Maybe when T51R modding the compressor housings? Might be a fun mod on GT28s for that "fake single turbo" effect.
    • Update 1: I did some work on the car already before finalizing this post and my "issues" list. I dropped the Tomei exhaust in favor of the HKS Hi Power Silent. Sounds nice and I can actually hear myself think now. Also gives me a realistic chance to legally drive without silencer inserts. A bit of cheating was necessary to still be able to mount the Top Secret style diffuser. Some malusage of washers and a bit of "convincing" toward the brackets and exhaust hanger seemed to do the trick. The shaky steering wheel has been resolved as various suspension components were worn, like sway bar bushings and link bars. Most notably the two steering tie rod ends. Had some trouble finding bushings because my sway bars are not OEM thickness, 23.x up front and 27 rear. But non adjustable, so no aftermarket I suppose. Maybe they are nismo units? Turbo oil drain hoses were definitely still the originals and are new now. Wasn't the cause of the turbo oil leak sadly. Currently removing the rear turbo because of it, I suspect the braided oil feed line is the culprit. This issue needs to be dealt with so I can work towards actually getting the turbo setup legal and inspected. Two new issues to add to the list as well. Rear Main seal is probably leaking. Time will show how bad it is, I don't really want to drop the gearbox right now just for the stupid seal. Could fix a few other things in one go once I do that. Front right driveshaft grease is going past the cv boot, so at some point I'll fix that too.
